Here it is. looking for info and value

Loose}{Cannon

Almost looks the part, but the painted rear cover makes me think its seen some level of rework.

1776 will commence again if you try to take our firearms... It doesn't matter how many Lenins you get out on the street begging for them to be taken.

Concur, the stock looks good, though I didn't see the picture of the right side of buttstock and left side of stock around cross bolt area. But the paint on the receiver cover makes me suspect it may have been refurbed

90 degree gas block, take down lever with hole, gas piston lever, spike bayonet. these are the things that on Gunboards the guys told new owner his had and was the holy grail of sks collectors. his had original stock but did have refurb stamp on dust cover, between star and year stamp. yours don't have refurb stamp there, not sure it's not somewhere else but yours has 90 degree gas block and spike bayonet. they said maybe 2 in the USA. 1949's very rare and most converted to blade bayonets. they told him easy $2000, you need to do more research to find out more of what you have. could be another one and then there were 4 in the USA.

if you want to read whats on gunboards.com go to sks look for "1949 tula sks found today" it's on first page. he only has 3 pics posted.

just go to next post here and you can read about the other one. just seen it after i posted here. has link to story on gunboards

the photo of the magazine hurts my eyes, modification on magazines is one big thing I don't like about Russian SKS's imported in Canada.

To OP: it is definitely a gorgeous 1949, congratulations!!

Thanks for posting and welcome!

Have the SNs been double-struck or over-struck on the bolt carrier and magazine? The 9 on the stock year looks a bit like a 0 in the pic, in any case the last 9 looks different than the second 9 in 1949  think1

bcblaster

yes the one 9 looks a little off but there is no refurb marks what so ever  receiver is not painted just worn off a little   barrel is crisp   every thing matches even the numbers under the gas tube .where would you find out more about it

noticed that too. and is just me or does the star stamped in the stock look a little, well different then other stars ? not wanting to take anything away from it but like you say lot of double stamping and such. not matching s/n anyway but still a great find. i'd like to have it.

the 0 or 9 stamp on stock would need to look at up close. sometimes they don't look right at an angle. got into a discussion with a seller on gunbroker about a m39 finn about a 9 or 6 stamp in the stock and he did want to send better picture. told me to not bid on any of his stuff, lol. i told him not a problem. don't want to do something as simple as send A pic don't want to spend my 100's of dollars on them anyway.

the dark stuff on receiver cover is not original bluing.

Phosphorus32

Loose}{Cannon was referring to the receiver cover being painted, not the receiver. You can see the sharp edges, bluing doesn't wear that way. Originally they were blued and painting is considered a sign of refurbishment.

The star doesn't concern me too much since there was a lot of variability in those, even in the 1950 SKSs.

Of course, I've held exactly 0 (zero) 1949s so take my word with a grain of salt...I'm just studying the pics available. As wacman85 pointed out all of the characteristic physical features are there, including a cruciform spike bayonet (not a Chinese like on the fakes).  I think it's only a question of refurbishment, and I certainly wouldn't care if I had a refurb...if it was a '49 :)

bc, did you look at and read about the other 49' here? it's has refurb stamp and is still a great find. your's is a great find too. but like your doing i would try to find out all i could so as to nail down a price just case the future requires you to sale.

i think things that are being talked about here are only being said so as to give you food for thought nothing more. not a person here that wouldn't wish this had come their way, i think,  thumb1

not a 100% but seems as though i've been told that no refurb stamps may not mean no refurb. think i was told that on a russian m44 i have that's 100% #'s matching down to the imprint in the wood under tang. so as others have told me more then once never say never.

just a bunch of jibber jabber i'm saying here maybe some will make sense or maybe not.   dance2

so does that mean i get second pick cause we're friends now? come on help out an old poor dog on the hunt.

just kidding, good to have friends like that. it's how i got my LB and "B" series m59's. gentleman was kind enough to even give a month to get money together, don't come upon that everyday. at least i don't.

russian wise i only have a refurb, xxxxx out stock number [/] dust cover. but hope to find, when money is right, a as-issued or original Tula and a Izhevsk. it's just dumping dollars on Finnish m39's right now too. been doing pretty good on those. next one i'm getting is a no-name no-date m39. another nice guy giving me time to round up the oh dollars. you know you can get a rope on them but can't always pull them in, their so slim.  thankyou1

running-man

I think that knowing that Westrifle is selling two '49s that aren't quite as nice as yours for CAD$650 (http://westrifle.com/wrstore/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=20&products_id=1991
http://westrifle.com/wrstore/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=20&products_id=2039) I'd say you have something fairly special there.  In the states that rifle is likely $2k to maybe $5k when the buyer and seller both know what it is.  I don't think we are going to be able to tell you exactly what the Canadian market will bear, but I bet .ca prices will continue to increase as long as the supply is disrupted.

CARBINE

#19
I go hunting for a day and then a beautiful 49' comes up!!

WOW what a nice carbine!! That is one rare bird I think I have seen one or two other 49 stamped stocks.....even in Canada thats a keeper to never let go, I don't even want to know what it would bring in the states...I think RM's guess of 2k might be a little low.

Congrats on the great find!! I'm super jealous!! drool2
