Hello all I'm new to the site and proud to own what I think is a 56 Russian sks.. But not sure.. I want to add pics but thought I would ask what are some areas or pics that I should post to you experts help me identify it.
I really love the reliability and consistency of this rifle.. I will post pics soon after I read what is needed.. I have read so many versions of what means what so hoping to get some answers.. Thank you in advance for the replies.

Ps also.. The mag is not pinned but I have plans on taking it to a gunsmith to make it legal.. I live in On Canada.. And believe it has to be pinned to 5 rds.. Right will hold 10.

We love all pics! But post the left side of the receiver with the serial... That will tell us exactly what it is.

Mmm how do I post pics... Lol

Host them somewhere, like photobucket. Then copy the direct link, and use the add image button above (looks like a little mona lisa icon).

Ca 2093 and then what looks like a backwards letter N... This appears on lots of different spots on the rifle...... And there is also a star behind that maybe 4 inches..
The stock says 1954..i think

Photos instructions are here: http://sks-files.com/index.php?topic=87.0

As for what to show, receiver w/ S/N and area just below receiver cover. Top of receiver cover with takedown lever shown, bayo lug with ears shown clearly, gas block, gas tube takedown lever, and rear sight ladder.

Welcome to the boards.

looks like a refurb 'I' letter gun with a replaced Izhevsk stock.

Ok interesting.. Diff stock eh

Most Russians have been refurbished in some capacity, from light, to heavy. I rifle with a bad stock, would get a stock kept from another rifle that was no good. Usually they are sanded to some extent, but often the old markings are not completely sanded off.

So this isn't such a great gun then?
Am I reading this wrong..

Here are your pics inline. Pcke is spot on with his analysis. 1957 letter gun wirh a replaced stock. Stock looks almost devoid of finish. CA is a pretty common prefix on these '57s as I have 5 or 6 in my database.

Nothing wrong with this SKS. It's not a pristine example, but I bet it shoots true and you don't have to worry about treating it with kid gloves when you use it.

Nice example!  thumb1

Well I really like shooting it for sure.. Honestly.. I hate the wood stock.. And the fact the gas tube wood isn't matching.. My plan is to paint both black.. Or possibly light texture bed liner... I seen another sks stock painted like that and it looked more than decent...

yours is actually fairly rare compared to other refurbs due to the Izhevsk stock
