54 tula refurb with black blade

So a buddy of mine came over yesterday all excited about his new rifle. He pulled it out and I was instantly drawn to the black blade. I know I know its a refurb but I haven't seen one in person yet. Then he started telling all the mods he was going to do to it?
Now its mine....

My girlfriend has a Litski (please correct me on terminology if I'm wrong or thinking of something completely different) refurb with a black painted bayo.

This one seems to be blued that way. I've seen both variations more than a few times but I am reminded of my curiousity every time I do.

Anybody have any ideas as to why they would be black?

The 49 spike bayonets were all black/Blued, as were the Mosins. I think it was a carry over from other technology that faded away with the changing of the guard, and the times.

Yup... In my mind

they were originally on 50/51 guns and when the chrome change happened, they were all removed to make all skss more uniform. They later found their way onto refurbs of any date.

I latched onto one back in the day and installed it onto my daughter's Chinese SKs that I built up for her.

I'm glad to have it, it does put me 4 over what I intended to have but who's counting other than my wife. Still looking for an Albanian for my slim collection. I am so appreciative for all on this site and my mild (lol) SKS addiction

That's the bomb right there, I'm a black bayo fan as well. I don't have any Russian but I would be real happy if one like that was my first. And nice job on the rescue too
