So, a while back I finally broke down and decided to add a Mosin to my collection: I picked up this 1942 Izhevsk M91/30 with all numbers matching except for the bolt(EDIT: Bolt does match). Bore is in excellent condition and surprisingly enjoyable to shoot...Aside from the obvious akwardness of being completely left-side dominant and working a bolt-action rifle.

Well, apparently the bug bit me and now I can't stop picking up cheap(for this day and age, anyways) Mosins. It got lost in the postal service for a bit, but, it finally arrived so, I went and picked up this 1946 Izhevsk M44 today. It's a bit rough, but, the bore is also in excellent condition and every single number matches. Gave it a deep clean, added a cleaning rod to it, and now to just put some rounds through it to test it out!

...There might be another Mosin being added to the collection soon as well... 8)

Some of us know there are certain things in this world you simply don't do...

Buying a Mosin when you have a slightly compulsive demeanor (like me) is one of them!!!  Best to stay a Mosin teetotaler because before you know it you'll be asking GM for Mosin advice, and that leads to some very dark places!  rofl

You're fortunate, when they were $80 bucks they were easy to stack deep and feed cheap. The last 440 tin I got from a private party was $89 bucks, about the same as a 91/30, PAX

An M91/30 and an M44; the classic Mosin starter pack  thumb1 8)

RM is right, that GM guy will lead you down the road to perdition, or ammunition, or something  :-\

Psst, have you heard of the M38, M91/59, M91/38, M91, M91 Dragoon, M91 Kazakh, M1907…and there are all the unique Finnish models…and the Chinese and Eastern Bloc copies of the M44, etc. So much variety  :o

RoscoeTurner

They are addictive, fortunately for me I bought the vast majority of mine when they were less than $100.  The early 1891s were my favorites to pick up.

Addicts and enablers.. it's been a rough road, especially with that P32..... guy lurking. or.... Mr I fell off the wagon....   rofl

What will one more hurt. It's just one more, there's plenty of room in the 4th safe still.

Mosins multiply if you leave them alone in the dark too long. I'm up to 10 right now, plus 1 Nagant pistol.

That is a very nice collection! I'm afraid I may have left mine in the dark for too long as I now find that I'm up to 3...Most likely 4. There's a 1933 Hex Receiver on the way, and I feel like a Romanian M44 won't be too far behind.  whistle12

I've also pretty much doomed myself now: I finally put some rounds through the M44 and I absolutely love that spiky little fire-breather! May as well work on this collection while I can still find some decent(nowadays) deals!

I view surplus arms the same as planting a tree: the best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago, the second best time is today.

If you're going to flesh out the collection (and indeed, that is technically what you now have and it will only get worse), now is certainly the time to do it.  thumb1

Very nice, I managed to break the habit at 19 about ten years ago.  They were very addictive when they were selling for less than $100.

Got my first two in March 2011, the dealer had a special buy one for $99.00 get a second one for just $99.00. Couldn't pass that deal up, so I bought two........ chuckles1

I had one hole to fill in my M91 manufacturers collection, the most common manufacturer. I won this salty Finn-captured antique Izhevsk over the weekend. Fell off the wagon again  :))

Well, I picked up the 1933 Hex Receiver 91/30 today...and I ended up buying this 1943 91/30 that I've been eyeing for a while now. Both have all numbers matching and are in excellent condition all around.

I like the blonde stock, color looks like the one on my 1947 Izhevsk M44
