Hello. New member here; first time poster.  I'm in the St. Louis, MO area.  I own a staggering number of SKS rifles: 1. Yes, just 1 Chinese Type 56...and I love it! So, I joined this forum in order to have a quick place to ask questions and gain knowledge. My ignorance of SKS rifles is impressive, only eclipsed by my ignorance of online forums!  :) So, please be kind. I don't do online forums really at all.

My rifle is a Chinese Type 56 standard carbine from 1972 (I think), hailing from Arsenal /906\. I'm hoping to acquire another Type 56 soon. I still have the box mag for my rifle, it's just not in the photos.

Welcome from the other side of the state, Kansas City. Your forum skills can't be too bad with this being your first post, I've seen a lot worse than this one.  :))

And you would be correct on the year on your Type 56. Nice pinned barrel setup you have there.
My Avatar is a pic of the real "Ghost" SKS in honor of xxxsks(joe). It is a pic of a fully decked out SKS in Capco hunter's kit. This was mine, the only other pic I had ever seen of one was Joe's.

Welcome from WA!

Apparently you’ve already done some reading of the resources here, so good identification of your Type 56  thumb1 8)

Thanks for the welcome!

BTW, I plan to go through the Chinese SKS Survey sometime soon. I've ordered a new stock for my rifle and I'm just going to wait till it arrives so I only have to disassemble it once. It's not laziness...it's efficiency!  thumb1

I should have the stock in early February:  https://www.luckyshotwoodstocks.com/product-page/sks-stock-custom-paratrooper-design

Should look something like this (this photo is a screenshot from a YT video I saw):

Greetings from NM.  Glad to have you here.

The thumbhole stock is not everyone's cup of tea, but those that like it, *really* like it.  Lucky Shot makes some nice stocks, I think you'll be happy with it.
