If you guys have been following, these rifles used to be an enigma as they are obviously NOT a 1956 '1m" rifle clearly by all of their late features. RM and I brainstormed a bit on these rifles and then it hit us...  They are ALL 1.5.  Not 1.1 or 1.2 or 1.7 etc but ALL 1.5. This is a CLEAR indication that the first digit/digits are simply a year designator and this same rule can be applied to almost every standard Chinese sks produced. When you compare these 1.5 (15th year of production) features to the other known /26\ rifles, its obvious they are mirror images of the 13 and 14m. The 14th year was NOT the last year of production at Jianshe. That being said, all numerals after the year designation on the 15th year indicate sub 20k produced going off our current (small) list of observed rifles.  Compared to the production totals in the years just prior to 1970, the 20k 15th year current totals indicate just a few weeks worth of production. This is strong evidence as to why they dropped a digit from the total serial in this year. There was simply no need to waste time stamping digits on thousands of rifles that was not needed.

Here is mine.....   Un-fired with original box.    The missing link.

1776 will commence again if you try to take our firearms... It doesn't matter how many Lenins you get out on the street begging for them to be taken.

Sure is clean lookin. Reminds me of my late M21.

Not many of these, and a nice example. Doesn't get much better than brand new in box!  thumb1

Yet another rifle, taken to the wood pile :o  chuckles1

Cool, especially getting the box  thumb1  Interesting, no machined lightening cut out in the bolt.
I'm going to make him an offer he can't refuse......

Leave the gun, take the cannoli.

1966: 11 mil /26\ short-lug, bottom-swivel, spike-bayo, large-font stock <---- First arrival of stamped trigger housings, two piece gas-tube, plus the deletion of the carrier and bay lug lightening cuts

One of the reasons why we know when this rifle was made.   thumb1

side mounted loop for the sling forgot that,,its all old except the gas tube/bolt  and cant really see bolt carrier, said its all matching;will see more when it arrives..i have a couple more like this too..im gonna check s/n on at least one..

There were many 15th year guns at factories other than Jianshe, /26\. A few 15th year /26\ guns came into the US in the last set of imports from Albania.

Yours will be interesting to get a look at in its own thread when you receive it  thumb1

/306\ also has year 13 and 14 year codes too.  Was one of the earlier factories to be producing the type 56.

wow,,thanks for that; i have a couple more with all older things;like short lug barrel and milled trigger but this one has a bottom swivel but a nine digit s/n no lighting cuts  and two piece gas tube again.the arsenal is hard to make out.i try later to match it with the chart you all have. the serial number has distant 2 and a distant 4 as per left to right .all matching but the 4 is never included anywhere.i doubt it is a 15 yr gun though

It's pretty hard to match an unknown arsenal using features such as side swivel on a stock.  The Chinese were all over the place with some things like side swivel vs bottom swivel, albeit other features had a clear progression across *all* arsenals.

Will be neat to see what you've gotten your hands onto!  Post her up when you get it in your hands and the gang will apply their expertise.  I fully believe that we'll get it figured out!  thumb1
