mk 2 mods 0 and 1 Garands are creating quite a stir on the CMP forum. I placed an order too and hopefully will be getting them too. Will post pics when they are in hand. Anyone here ordered them?

I wasn’t aware until I saw someone complaining bitterly about the price on a FB milsurp group.  I didn’t look into it further (not due to the complaint). I’m guessing it’s a lottery situation like with the M1911A1s? Price?

Good luck! Hope you show it here if you get one.

Regular CMP mail order, I'm guessing Navy just transferred all their supplies in Crane to the CMP. Mod 0 - $950, Mod 1 $1600. I'd say Mod 0 is a deal. Many come close to 'correct', plenty of lockbar sights seen.

Most of what Ive seen people got were really nice examples. Whining about CMP mail orders is all too common :) It's human nature, someone got something solid but then they see someone got a nice mostly original Winchester with lockbars, uncut op rod and beautiful properly cartouched stock and the  cry2 cry2 begins.

Phosphorus32

Wow, they both sound like good to very good prices in today’s market!

Agreed on the whining. There are also a lot of them who don’t understand the CMP mission and that it takes dollars to run their operation. Admittedly, I liked the way Orest ran the CMP better but it’s still a very good operation with an important mission..

Cz315

They came in today (it's nice to NOT have them shipped to FFL anymore :) ). Not lottery winners but nice pieces of history. I'm happy with them. Pics to follow when I have time for a proper photo session.

I think the mod0's are a great deal. Highly original, rare variation, almost guaranteed to be 'as is' from the Navy depot and not put together by the CMP at $900 shipped? Buy if you can! (says the enabler)

If you would have caught me 2 Tulas ago I'd be on it too  thumb1 I'm trying to quit....honestly, for reals, I'm done... PAX

Whenever I’m asked (usually by the wife  rofl ) how many more I need……. The answer is always the same, Just one more!  chuckles1.

I’m really tempted by these Navy Garands I was just gonna pull the trigger on a couple of silencers but rethinking of allocating the funds to one of of these……

Hey CZ, are they being sold so cheaply because they are deemed 'unserviceable'?

The disclaimer affidavit certainly seems to indicate the CMP considers these to forever be wall hangers... :o

Cz315

Possibly. I think they consider Mod0 a wall hanger and remove the firing pin. I think it's actually safe to fire them with proper precautions, but I won't do it myself  :) Mod1 is clearly shootable with proper ammo, hence the price difference.

In general, the CMP prices are approaching (or surpassing as for the 1917s) the market prices. There are reports of Criterion barrels on the recently received Service graces. The bottom of the barrel is hear, I fear. As Bob (the armorer at the North Store) told me last year - the good old days are now, meaning that you can still get a nice Garand for reasonable money.

running-man

I definitely hear you!  They won't ever get cheaper.

I got my Garand from CMP way back in 2013. It's a post war fabricated H&R so it's not terribly collectible to the Garand-snobs, but it's in excellent condition with relatively few rounds through it.  I paid $450 for it if I remember correctly.  Clip ejection upon the last round is one of the most satisfying sounds I think I'll ever hear.  :))

This could make you feel better about H&Rs :) https://cmpauction.thecmp.org/detail.asp?id=8543&n=M1-Garand-HRA-Service-Grade-4660740

They have been long under appreciated, but this is no longer the case I think. I bought a correct grade H&R on a secondary market few years back for 1500.

(the lockup is so tight that it takes a rubber mallet to pry it out)

Phosphorus32

Beauties!  8) Impressive muzzle/throat measurements!

How is your Mod 0 inactivated? Just the FP removed?

Cz315

Thank you!

As far as I can tell pin removal was the only inactivation they’ve done.

I am an addict so I ordered two more. I figured those Navy Garands won’t last forever, they are fairly uncommon and there is a pretty decent chance of getting something very nice. I guess I am a self enabler

First I was disappointed with the birch stock but it grew on me a lot.

BMont

I must resist.... I must resist.  Been watching these.... I must not purchase!!!! :-\

Cz315

I know I was the same. Then I realized I was weak and I embraced it  cry1

Now I actually need to sell some stuff to keep me from going bankrupt. IHC field grade Garand and chrome 1903 will be coming up for sale soon...
