I picked this up today at the local auction for $350 plus a $25 transfer fee even though it was dated before it 1898. Anyway, didn’t have to do any background check so…, I believe it has the 1908 re-arsenal rear site, but the Arshins are not crossed out on the left side and definitely blank on the right side. There is a cartouche of a Z inside a circle on the stock. It’s also the typical Finnish finger spliced stock, the SA in the little rectangle is there, the bolt and the receiver are off by a couple of numbers. Also, there are no import marks. I have not removed it from the stock in order to check the tang just yet. It was missing the magazine bottom plate, but I have a few of those laying around. I tried to start a thread on gun boards, but every time I loaded photographs there it would delete them. So I’m back. Hi guys long time no talk to…

Do you have any idea what the cartouche on the stock represents?

Sindone

Beautiful rifle.  The Z on the stock is said to be a stock makers mark.
Edit to add. A Finnish stock makers mark.

Th “Z with crossed cannons” cartouche is believed to be simply a general Finnish arsenal inspection mark, not a specific stock maker.
