Think I'm going to mod a Yugo.

Main mod will be to scope it.
Either a Choate mount with an older burris 4x or a PU set up.
Cheek Riser.
Refinish the stock,  trigger job.
No muzzle brake or have a smith make me a linear muzzle brake (I don't like loud).
Glass bed and maybe install a bipod stud,  but not sure if I want to lose the bayo.

Thoughts?
Other than don't do it.

The Accumount setup for the SKS is the best option for scoping the sks.

I've had one sitting in a box for about 4 years. Just haven't had time yet to mount it on the chosen rifle.

However, it may be slow going as I have to get a Hip replacement. Lots of pain so moving slow, but will plug along at it.

Here is the best way to mount a scope on an SKS.

Remove the dust receiver cover.
Mount your choice of rails by:
Draw (scribe) a center line on the cover.
Place the rail and mark your holes to be drilled.
Drill correct size hole to be tapped.
Tap the holes to fit the button head screws you choose.
Replace the rail and screw in the mounting screws. Lock tight in place.
Grind the screws off from the bottom side so they are flush with the curve of the cover. Needed so the bolt won't jam on them.

Remove the take down pin.
Replace the dust receiver cover. MUST be on for the tap threads to line up properly.
Tap (do not drill the hole) a 1/4-20 (or finer if you desire) hole all the way across and out the other side.
Use a grade 8, 1/4-20 x 1 3/4"L button head. MUST go all the way through and out the left side to anchor the cover.
Screw in the button head. Best if done right to left. Looks better in my opinion.
Cut to length, meaning flush with the receiver, cold blue and you are done.

Now you have a LOW mount, that will return to zero, every time you R/R it to clean your rifle.

I thought about this.
I think I will do this for another rifle since I have an extra cover fit for it already.
That way I can put it back to original any time.
Just have to find a piece of rail with the same curvature as the cover.

Is there a specific rail that's best to use here or do I just need to find one that "sorts fits" and make it work? Will a rail meant for a shotty work with some coercing?

Just one that fits on top of your dust cover, at least 2 holes. This is a simple mod to any SKS.

Sorry, this has been a slow project.
Had one hip Surgery and then the other.
So I have not done much
I did drill and tap an extra fitted cover for a S&W 686 mount. Almost a perfect fit, except the mount has a nub at one end that has to be ground off, easily done.
That is a Weaver mount, but I'm going to replace it with a picatinny rail.
