1958 Romanian

Hot off the big brown truck . I'll do some better photos later, the sun was going down, its like 25 degrees and I had a low battery warning on my camera. Almost all matching, even the rear sight, but the gas tube is a mismatch, no numbers found on the gas piston, and an odd serial marking for a Romanian SKS, see below. Unlike my other Romanians, there is not a bit of the original stock finish remaining on it.

And this, this is strange, the stock is serial stamped on the right side as well, the numbers(matching the serial) are roughly a 1/2 inch in height.   Ideas?

The serial number on the right side.. I got nothin.. At first I thought maybe it was Popescu's first day on the job and screwed up but.. Different font & no double letter prefix makes you think otherwise. Bubba in the states F'n around? eh.. probably not. Romanians seem to be all over the board when it comes to stock serials. Font, vertical, horizontal, etc. Guess we have a new one to add to the list!

Just noticed you have an FMA 115 stamp next to the serial just like mine. Those stamps seem to be all over the place.

Congrats on finding the last year in your Romy collection! Almost done! Now all you need is a Nam' bringback!! 

That trench art... Is that an attempted swastika I see? Or am I seeing things?

It looks like a Swastika to me.....   oh lord helpeth thy to not let Blicero to bestow eyes upon this rifle for the wrath to come will be swift and fierce.

I wondered that as well, about the swastika. This is the last shot before the camera died of the comb of the stock, I'll let the imagination run on what the marks are....   I debated on posting it, but I can think of no other explanation for them..

Those are just tally marks for every day that gun actually saw service before getting thrown in a warehouse

I don't trust my eyes much anymore but the swastika appears to be backwards to me.    I read some years back the Nazis were not the only ones to have used this symbol or a derivative of it. I'm just throwing something else in the mix, our German aficionados will undoubtedly be able to clear up my statement!

The hole is officially filled, the '58 is now all cleaned up, the last lonely sling used, cleaning rod added and a cleaning kit shoved up the stock.

All 4 years, '57. '58, '59 and '60 of Romanian production. Now, too find the mythical no date
