IIRC, they are listed as 'harder to find' in one of RM's educational posts.

So how exactly is 'harder'?

Found one at an LGS at Fort Worth, TX. Looks in nice original matching condition, not from Albania, no bayonet either. The listing price is $595 but negotiable.

Sorry, no pics at this moment.

I am not aware of a single example of a 17th year serial from factory /26\.

17th thru 22nd year examples are non existent in the collected serial arvhive  -- afaik.

Do you have photos?

Sorry, no photos at this moment. I stopped by this LGS to kill some time today and found the rifle. Spent less than two minutes handling it but I remembered very clearly it has a triangle 26 arsenal mark.

I am debating if I should go back to the store and buy it tomorrow.

Because I knew very little about Chinese SKS, I didn't realize it's uncommon until I read RM's educational post this evening.

Do you recall the entire serial number?

Also, iirc, there is another arsenal stamp that is often mistaken for the /26\.

136 or maybe 126?

Do you recall what type of barrel collar it has?

Thank you. To be honest, I don't remember the detail you mentioned now. I may be able to go back to the shop and take a closer look at it tomorrow, or take pics.

Hey Pcke, what thread were you looking at on the year 17 /26\?  I don't remember posting that, and if I did I think it's wrong because I've got zero year 17 /26\s guns in my files.  Assuming it is a year 17 /26\, yeah that's a heck of a find as we didn't think they produced them then.

For year 16 factory /26\, I have only a single example & those are rare as hen's teeth, so that might be what you're remembering.

Boris is probably on to something with the factory /136\ looking just like /26\ and often being mistaken for one.  They very likely produced guns at this factory in year 17 (there are no examples, but I do have examples of year 16 and year 18, so it's a likely-to-have-been-produced hole).

1776 will commence again if you try to take our firearms... It doesn't matter how many Lenins you get out on the street begging for them to be taken.

Went back to the store this morning and found out I was wrong, it's a Factory 316 made rifle.

Bummer! :P

/316\'s are still well made carbines though!

Looks well built barrel is pinned. Since it's not a Factory 26 rifle, I didn't buy it.
