Old Guy's DIY Hobby SKS Bullpup

Back in 1993 with talk of stopping Chinese imports (especially guns) and with early talks of Y2K issues with possible Armageddon actions etc.  I wanted a semiauto rifle that used the caliber ammo that the supposed enemy would have & could be taken. Not being a full blown prepper but wanted it 'just incase'. Found a Norinco Sporter that had the shorter barrel and used AK47 magazines. It sat in my gun safe with my other guns but rarely shot it except to keep the optics sighted in.
Being a mechanical DIY type I thought it would be fun to convert it to a compact Bullpup. Not wanting to spend the money to buy an existing conversion setup I tinkered around until I made one I liked (it's not to everyone's taste). Added a few unnecessary things like a green laser and mounted flashlight but it was fun to tinker with.

Even as a purist, I have to admit that's cool looking. Certainly shows a lot of craftsmanship. Did you actually make it out of carbon fiber? Mag changes look like they're a bit trickier than on the original.

Not real carbon fiber, the stock was made with 14+ layers of 1/4" (3 ply) plywood glued & clamped till dry. The different layers were pre-cut to follow the shape of the receiver/barrel etc. That way it saved carving out that much from a solid wood blank. After finishing the final shape it was given it's look with the Hydrodip paint film process & sealed with polyurethane. The bottom of the pistol grip has a notched area that clears the magazine when installed or removed. It works smoothly, just push the release & rotate the mag forward like normal (to remove).

Thanks, It was the first time I used a "HYDROGRAPHIC WATER TRANSFER CARBON FIBER FILM KIT". Watched a few videos online the decided I'd buy one off eBay & try it. I lucked out & didn't screw it up.

Do you have the Magwedge rail hard mounted to the aftermarket receiver cover or just laying over it? I'd also be curious to see your trigger linkage setup.

When the ring-pin is removed it hinges up away from the aftermarket receiver cover, it's not attached to it. The cheek rest is attached to the Magwedge rail. For the time being I don't want to disassemble the gun in order to take a pic of the trigger but I got a spare stock trigger and cut it down just enough to leave a linkage tab for the extension linkage rod. With it in the normal location I made a secured mount to hold the stock trigger (& safety) set up front for the extension linkage rod. I added an additional return tension spring to offset the 'drag' of the linkage rod addition. It's no hair trigger but it's not too bad considering it's a bullpup & the stock SKS wasn't exactly a light pull. For an urban defense use weapon it's fine.
