Old news.  It has been posted elsewhere several days before.   ;)

For $299 at classic, they worth a shot and I'm happy with what I got.

However for $499...don't know about taking a chance on one or two.

If I could hand pick one...sure, but luck of the draw makes it risky though.  wink1

Whew! $500 is bout what my local gun store will ask for any Chinese in excellent condition. $300-$400 is the normal range for a well-used surplus Chinese like the ones those boys at Palmetto have pictures of.

If they really have thousands of those things in stock, you'd think they could afford to be a little more generous on the price tag...

I guess everything is more expensive on the computer.
I've got some oceanfront property in Arizona, you buy that I'll throw in the golden gate for free

Has anybody here bought one?  If so what type of condition are they in?

I have thought about it, but at $499...plus fees...its risky.

Looking at the reviews... Most are fairly decent, typical surplus rifles. I'm tempted as I haven't bought an SKS in a few years... With surplus weapons sold in bulk, a monkey drops it in a box and ships it...... I never have had high expectations, if it comes out perfect, great, wonderful, if it's poor, I always just fixed it, moved on and wasn't heartbroken.

One thing that's for sure......they ain't gonna get any cheaper.. they haven't gotten any cheaper in almost 22 years since I bought my first SKS...
I'm going to make him an offer he can't refuse......

Leave the gun, take the cannoli.

I have looked at the reviews and photos a few times...

Some photos of them look pretty good and others a bit ragged - with lots of "art".  I'm not a fan of that, since the names, etc, don't mean much to me.  WWII GI art on an M1 Garand would mean more.

Just hate to get one after parting with $500+ buckaroos and then be let down, by no bluing and cracked stock.  :-\

The joys of surplus weapons... like a roll of the dice in Vegas as I learned over the years.. Bought many sight unseen, got lots of good ones and some toads.. bought a beautiful Cherrys import M48BO Mauser.... graded Excellent... after I got the grease out.. it had a sewer pipe patch shredding barrel.. still have it and still shoot it. :)

The art.. I go either way, One side like you, don't mean much to me personally.. in yet another way.. it's evidence someone somewhere on this rock was fighting for what they believed in..good or bad, it's part of the human experience pure and simple....  It's not for everyone..but I have always tended to gravitate towards the war torn and worn look versus all shiny and pretty.

Same here.  So many surplus rifles I COULD have bought years ago when they were plentiful, cheap and generally unwanted.  Most guys didn't want old surplus firearms.  Why didn't I buy tons of them then?

Now...?  Well now those days are gone.  They're all sold out, no more coming in (nearly) and prices are up and I mean waaaay up.  Live and learn I guess..... wink1

carls sks

wonder if anyone got one and what it is like.

If you want to see an assortment of them, go to Reddit and look at all the 'new PSA' (palmetto state armory) posts: https://www.reddit.com/r/SKS/new.

Lots of unadulterated stupid over there though. (Like way more than on SKSboards as if that were possible). They hold yooper in high regard and combine all sorts of Internet gospel together to make ridiculousness. It's no wonder to me why do many people have such trouble ID'ing and dating Type 56s. I post once in a while when they are so far out in left field I just can't take it anymore, but for the most part it's easier just to sit back and watch the feces flinging.

Interesting - some of the PSA ones look good...better than I was expecting.   clap1

Wonder if pics of the really bad ones, just just don't get shared.

More of what I was expecting.....

Real question is how many were cleaned up really good before posting. Most people really don't want to post an ugly duckling, unless it's to truly complain about it or it's a major defect. It's the I don't wanna be the guy with the ugly Betty hollar honey rifle syndrome...  rofl Everyone wants that number matchy pristine finish and bore arm candy trophy wife.

Yeah, I'd be shocked if I got one like this:

This one looks over-cleaned:

Now, that's more like it
