To those who have refurb Russian SKS in collection, do bayonets on your Russian refurb all sit tight inside the groove when bayonets are folded back (closed position)? or you can move it slightly up and down?

Shoot The Refurbs

Just checked mine and they all sit tightly in the groove.  thumb1

I've only got the one heavy refurbed late '50, but it is tight.
My Avatar is a pic of the real "Ghost" SKS in honor of xxxsks(joe). It is a pic of a fully decked out SKS in Capco hunter's kit. This was mine, the only other pic I had ever seen of one was Joe's.

Thank you very much gentlemen! Interestingly bayonets on all my non-refurbs sit very tightly. Refurbs are not so.

One of my '54 Izhevsk refurbs sits nice and snug on the bayonet fitting. (w/hardwood stock)   The other '54 Izhevsk refurb (w/laminated stock) can move slightly up and down but stays in the completely closed position without help.

Thank you! I suspect it is due to imperfection in fitting during refurb. In my case, about 50% of my refurbs have this issue, while none of my non-refurbs (1951-1954 and letter guns) does.

I don't have an extensive collection :( but from my observations the early straight collar bayonets are more likely to wobble. My supposedly as issued '52 with straight collar wobbles a tiny bit but the later slated supposedly non refurb doesn't. I recall watching a Youtube video where such wobbliness was mentioned to be the reason for the switch from the early straight collar to the late slated one. Makes sense to me, but who knows.
