If you found a nice not as issued SKS example that you need for a hole in the collection but the rifle is a refurb or a non-matching part what would you rather have? This is for the less common variants that you just don't see "in the wild" often.

1- Non-matching (stamped or forced) metal part (non-BBQ guns I'm referring to)
a- metal blank or scrubbed metal part
or
2- Non-matching stock
a- Refurbed or sanded matching stock
b- XXX out stock renumbered to gun
c- if Russian having a Tula stock on Izhevsk or vice versa
d- total replacement no stamps/cartouche/xxx outs

Thanks for your input.

I think having the action parts match over the stock would be a better way to go. My choice in order of best to worse are;
2a
2b
2d
2c

GG, am I misunderstanding you? Why do you have 1 at the bottom if you think matching parts over stock best?

I'm with GG. Metal parts matching, refurbed (X'd, or replacement) matched stock. I think those are choices 2.a.i. (i.e., excluding the sanded stock option 2.a.ii.  :))) and 2.d.

I have quite a few in my collection that are not original matching in one or more ways, especially Russians, and I still like them a lot.

I would prefer to have the metal parts numbers matching and the stock non-matching than vice-versa.

Wants vs will settle.

Will settle: I'll grab a non matching bubba special if the price is right.

Want: Full matching non-refurb Russkie...oh yeah.

I think a lot of us here are in this boat

My understanding of your question was that #1 was with the SKS having non-matching metal parts. That would be my least desired set up to have. Thus, that is the 'worse' case scenario and therefore down at the bottom.

Ha, I'm an idiot!  fart1

That's what I meant to ask the way I typed it above. I had another thought in my head when I read your message and forgot the way I typed it up.

nea1 I'm not on that cruise ship for a non-refurb Russian........  now.... a no date Romanian... matching or not (cause most don't match anyway, non matching is socially acceptable in Romanians), sling would be an extra bonus. I'll be in the one man kayak for that.  thumb1 chuckles1
I'm going to make him an offer he can't refuse......

What GM said. My Romys are mostly forced matched, but I was happy they crossed my path. The one that's EP'd the most does have matching wood. The other one is only forced on the bolt, but came in a Tapco T6, so I got a stock from Clearwater. I scored on un-number Russian laminate that I'm going to give a try. The Russian furniture came today  ::)

If the price is right, nothing need to match, but bad things could happen to it. Price dictates most everything. PAX

I too am with GG on this one, metal matching is more important to me personally.
And as was stated with Romy's being normal to sometimes not be matching I would second that and tend to add Alby's in that grouping as well. Hard to come by full matching specimens of those in the wild these days  cry1
