Pcke2000, if you are still looking this might end up to be a deal. Ends in few hours. https://www.gunbroker.com/item/890827746

Seller didn't put Mosin Nagant in the title and he is wondering why so few takers...

Greatguns

Man, such a shame, dude could be getting almost twice that much if he would have simply added 2 more words into the title. I can't decide whether to bid on it or contact the seller and tell him to extend his listing and add "Mosin Nagant" to the title and/or description.
My Avatar is a pic of the real "Ghost" SKS in honor of xxxsks(joe). It is a pic of a fully decked out SKS in Capco hunter's kit. This was mine, the only other pic I had ever seen of one was Joe's.

I was actually thinking of bidding on it too, but then I have '26 Izhevsk already and could be using the $ on other toys...

Ended up at 390. Not much of a deal, but not exactly a rip off for an ex-dragoon in what seems to be VG shape. Bayo+accessories there are worth at least 50, I'd say.

Here's the promised pictures of my two recent purchases.   First is the 1938 Tula.  Notice the spliced portion on the heel.  Since this seems to be a common thing on laminated SKS stocks, I'm thinking it was a way to conserve wood, such as what is seen on wartime Japanese stocks. Please forgive the picture adjustment.  Took em with my phone and it NEVER seems to come out right.

Bacarnal

Now for the 1943r Izhevsk.  The stock is wartime and seems like one of the previous owners laquered the s&>/ out of it.  Still has most of the stamps, though.

Thank you so much! Unfortunately I missed your post. It looks like a real nice example and final price was not that crazy.

I think the finish is probably original on the Izhevsk, if it has drips and runs then for sure it’s okay  :))

I agree, the spliced heel is to allow cutting of narrower stock blanks to reduce waste.

I always liked the war time Mosins for their character, the rough workmanship reflects the conditions at the time. Kind of fascinating.

Well, I think it's time to trot out the famous picture of RM examining his first Mosin, reportedly a barn find in Newfoundland, upon which he was first heard to utter his famous tagline: "The only way to avoid Mosin #2 is avoid Mosin #1, eh!"

We’ll shoot, you got me  :-[ :)) I didn’t notice that when I was in Newfoundland. Loved it for the week I was there.

Additional pix of the 1943.  I swabbed out the barrel and there was no observed pitting, but the cut marks for the grooves is rough, probably due to wartime corner cutting and a worn button on the rifling machine.
