Australian Smith and Wesson Victory Revolver

A Lend-Lease Australian-used (D "broad arrow" D marking) Victory Model Smith and Wesson (became the K frame Model 10, post-WWII). This one went through Factory Thorough Repair (FTR) at Lithgow (MA) in 1954. It was re-Parkerized and dipped in Cosmoline. All the British Commonwealth Victory model revolvers were chambered in 38 S&W and had 5" barrels, which contrasted with the US used Victory models chambered in .38 Spcl with 4" barrels.

My wife bought the empty WWII era 38 S&W (Mk IIz) ammunition box at a cool little hole in the wall gun and militaria shop we stumbled across in Post Falls Idaho a couple of weeks ago. That shop was honestly mind-blowing. Not a lot of firearms but the militaria was incredible. Anyhow, the little ammo crate was one of my Christmas presents and the perfect accompaniment to this pistol.

I've been off of work this week so I was able to head out to the range yesterday for lead therapy. I had some PPU 145gr LRN ammo. Very mild recoil and dirty ammo. I would guess the non-jacketed bullet requires some type of patch below it. The revolver shot good groups and operated fine but felt gritty, so I took it down last night for a deeper cleaning. Definitely a lot smoother now.

Here are some more pics of the little crate. 348 rounds, so I would guess 29 packs of 12. Possibly 58 packs of 6. In any case, definitely multiples of 6

That's a nice piece... of history, too.
I like Model 10s for teaching new shooters. I gave two different girlfriends K 10s for presents.
Very smooth double actions, always shoot straight. Mellow handling. Those broads could shoot your shirt buttons off with em.

As long as they don't meet one another, there's little danger of either one of them shooting the buttons on your shirt...
