Just got this from GB, the rifle isn't near as bad as the auction pics--it's too darn cold so no new ones yet. So far no refurb marks--the blueing looks super good--ought to really enhance my Russian set--annnd I can consider getting rid of the dark laminated 53 I have--yehhh  you heard it right --ME having a laminate!!!  It was a long time ago and laminates hadn't started showing up yet---

Congrats crazy that was a excellent price for a rare bird! Izhevsks are the holy grail to all sks dance1 just ask RM, or LC.

Laugh, just because I don't think they are the greatest thing since sliced bread, doesn't mean I don't appreciate them.   If I had the money, I'd have a slew of nice Izhevsks.

Thinking of trying a light application of alcohol to blend it all in without filling the stamps--wont be the best but still a nice used non do do---I have the garnet flakes to mix up a real lean mixture just to help blend it all in if necessary--then steel wool and a coat of paste wax maybe - it's going to be tough not covering the stamps in the stock--

I'm sure LC will be around shortly to tell you what he thinks.  I'm almost of the opinion that it's best to leave her be if it's not as bad as the GB photos. 

Just remember, you can always go forward, you can never go back.

I tried doing the denatured alcohol blend method once....   didnt work so well.          It didnt seem to melt/thin/spread the original shellac at all, but just dulled the over all sheen.  But I have also heard there are "special" alcohols to use with shellac when making it from flakes.  Perhaps that would make a difference?    I dunno.
