Admins & Members,
This has probably been suggested in the past, but tossing it out there for 4Q 2020. Would a  separate discussion thread for the SKS bayonet be helpful?
Posts related to types (blade/spike) & manufacturer, stamps/markings, dates, metal, colors, finishes, 'correct & incorrect', screw or rivet, stock cuts, attachment, repairs, "did or didn't come with", and of course - pics, etc, etc. - all of which come up for discussion on a routine basis. YJ's coverage is sufficient for the historian but, Files members might benefit from a 'one-stop' thread to address these thangs.  :)

I like the idea if it could be organized in such a way as to be easily navigated by guys like me. Guys looking for info on a specific sticker.

We can do pretty much anything you guys want to do  I can't generate anything on this because 1) i don't have the time and 2) i don't have all the bayo types to list, but i can make stickies and whatnot if someone wants to generate the content.  thumb1

RM, Appreciate the feedback. Stickies should do it. Members can populate the sticky as we go.

As an interested bystander, I'll offer this:

There are really only 2 types of bayonet - Blade & Spike.
The variances in those two categories are the fine print for a guy like me. Finish and length for the blades, same for the spikes.

If this could be done with photos and info for each type, I think it would be most informative. Especially if it wasn't scattered through several pages of a thread.
For instance, a post with a photo and physical description/dimensions, then definitive info on the type of rifle, years of issue, etc. These posts should all be grouped together at the top of the thread and all discussion afterwards.

Just my opinion, and worth what you paid for it.

LD, That's about sums it up.  dance2  There must be hundreds of posts/questions/comments on these stickers.  E.g., what's the distinction between a Chinese or Romanian bayo? For the purists; could a Russian blade be confused with a Yugo? Blood groove diffs? Stuff like that.

Bob_The_Student

Matchka, I love that idea. If I can help in any way let me know. I have 1 or 2 bayonets and 1 gun with a bayonet.  :)

I actually like this idea a lot.
A nice way to categorize and show what bayonets are interchangeable plus some of the oddballs, Ie; the 49' tula spike, or the variations in condition and color like the gold and matte black bayos, polished, etc. would be neat  thumb1

BtS, STR,
Just posted in Auctions a 54 Izhevsk w/black bayo. Are these legit? Beats me. The "golden" bayonet, paratrooper 'cut downs', length of spikers, "Does a Yugoslavia fit on a Russian?" (Or the opposite). Pointy tips v flat tips, the infamous bayonet 'sag' question/fixes. The "Obtw, your bayonet is upside-down." comment. And, the ubiquitous country variants... plus topics/discussions over the years that I've surely forgotten!

In my opinion, that black bayonet Izzy you just posted about is painted rather than blued. :)

Matchka

Painted bayo, refurb stamp on the stock, and I'm not quite sure what the finish is on the receiver, other metal.

Aren't there some chrome plated ceremonial bayos as well?

I dunno about ceremonial, but I have one....with some interesting rust.
It just landed on my newest project. The fish that was being a dick now will have to be disciplined with an Albanian bayonet. :)

IIRC MArtin08 has one on a ceremonial SKS he built up from an East German laminated stock had latched onto many moons back. Made his own chromed butt plate as well out of polished aluminum.
My Avatar is a pic of the real "Ghost" SKS in honor of xxxsks(joe). It is a pic of a fully decked out SKS in Capco hunter's kit. This was mine, the only other pic I had ever seen of one was Joe's.

Chromed long blade bayonet on the Slovenian Protokol M59/66-A1s and chromed standard length blade bayonet on the Chinese "Honor Guard" Type 56s.

I think, just based on what we have already, there's enough to start a photo based tutorial.
