Chinese norinco non matching is it a bad buy for 260$

Justin Hell

If it functions...that's a decent buy, for sure...

Phosphorus32

Original configuration, not matching and fully functional for $260? Yes!

Bob_The_Student

Depending on condition (badly rusted/ pitted/ stock trashed), I'd buy!

astronut

If in usuable, functional condition, I would buy it at that price.

Sourdough moe

No rust but the blueing loos like a cheap perkedized job.

Sourdough moe

It looks all original just the dust cover has no serial the shell box has no serial the bolt has nor serial the bolt group is non matching and trigger guard has no serial all I see is the recover serial along with factory 26 stamp and the barrel should is the long shroud dated to 1957-58

Looks like a nice SKS to me. Take a better picture in good light that shows what's up with the bluing.

It's not worth it, send me the guy's info so that I can take it off his hands and save you the headache. rofl rofl

Seriously, I'd be all over that for $260. Even if it needs a little work.
My Avatar is a pic of the real "Ghost" SKS in honor of xxxsks(joe). It is a pic of a fully decked out SKS in Capco hunter's kit. This was mine, the only other pic I had ever seen of one was Joe's.

In the top comparison picture at least it looks parkerized, I suspect it came from Norinco that way. If it were mine I would leave it as is.

All it needs is a decent red dot.

Looks like a Norinco refurbished gun. May have been a bit of moderately rough corrosion that they acid washed before rebluing and the rough surface results in a bluing with a matte appearance.

I've never seen a blue phosphate treatment (generic Parkerizing), light grey, green, grey-black, but not blue. The colors in a phosphate finish result from the other metal salts, manganese, zinc, etc, in the phosphating salts.

What he said. Only Parkerized SKSs I've ever seen were K-Sports. +1 Refurbed rough Matte finish.

If it shoots then it would make a good general hunting rifle for short money.

Looks just perfect.  All it needs now is a Chinese army green sling.

Have you ever tried hot rust blue ?

Hot rust blue is easy and fast to do and you don't need any special equipment. The parts are heated with boiling water, ( I pour boiling water over the barreled action from one end with a kettle ) the solution is applied the parts are immediately boiled again to bring them back up to temperature, then carded, and the process is repeated until you get the colour you want.  I generally do 8-10 passes.   You end up with a professional looking, classy and hard wearing finish without the long drawn out process of a cold rust blue... the end result is hard to beat.

I did the Webley revolver shown here, it took half a day to blue and reassemble .... http://www.pjsproducts.com/radocy.htm
