Hey guys, new guy here. I'm from Ohio, in my late 30's. Into music, guns, games, and bmx cycling. I have a couple rifles and a few pistols. My favorite manufacturer is S & W. I like H & K too but can't afford any. Haha.

Anyhow, I recently bought a SKS and I signed up on another forum, seemed kind of dead, so I figured I join this one too. I'm here to mainly learn more about the SKS platform itself, and about cleaning and maintaining the carbine and any other tips. I like to keep my stuff nice.

So yeah, nice to meet you all, and thanks for having me. I might not post much, but I like to lurk and take in information.

Welcome to the forum and you will definitely enjoy your time here!

Welcome aboard.I saw your Type 56 in your previous thread.Very nice rifle. There are lots of sub sections to learn and get caught up on as well as the official survey where all the variations get put into the database.Have you fired it yet or are you more into the collecting part?
When guns are outlawed only outlaws will have guns.

DegoLocc

Thanks guys. Yes I have fired it. Put about 5, 10 round stripper clips through it. Going to try and put 200 more through it this week, break it down and and clean it. It was completely broken down and cleaned before I bought it too.

I like to shoot cantaloupes and spaghetti squash at the range. The 7.62's blow them up real nice.  thumb1

Bubbazinetti

Very nice. They make very good shooters and are amazingly rugged.

Welcome from Kentucky DL. I also saw the SKS you posted. Nice looking rifle. I'm thinking that the guys at Beta used the wrong stamp, but that's just my opinion. Again, Welcome!!

DegoLocc

Yeah, it's my new favorite. I love the low recoil due to the carbine being heavy and rugged, it absorbs a lot of the kick.

I plan on keeping it all original too. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.  :P

Thanks for the welcome Bacarnal. What exactly did you mean by the wrong stamp? Sorry if it's a dumb question, with an obvious answer.

Boris Badinov

Welcome aboard.

This is the verboten forum I was referring to. I couldn't share the URL on the other forum because that specific link gets censored over there.

I think Bacarnal may be referring to the  SPORTER designation. SPORTER commonly refers to a specific, commercial  AK mag variant. But there was more than one SPORTER designated carbine. The "sporting rifle" designation was a means of circumventing bans against the importation of  surplus small arms.

Welcome from WA  thumb1

Enjoy posting, commenting and lurking as you like!  :)

DegoLocc

Thanks Phosphorus.

Ah yes Boris. Any actual "Sporter" I have seen, had a thumb hole stock, tan or orange wood, shorter 16 inch barrel, black metals instead of blued, and generally looked newer all around.

Bacarnal

DL, what Boris and you referred to was what I meant, and it also has a capability to use AK mags like mine below that I de-bubbafied from a badly applied TAPCO stock meant for a stock SKS.  Mine was imported by Labuno. Yours was by B West, so as Boris said, was their "Sporter" and so I stand corrected.  Cheers, Bruce.
P.S. Me thinks you'll like it over here!

Yeah Bacarnal, that is also a nice rifle you got there. Cool of you to put it back in a wood stock. Looks sweet.

Go Browns!

You will learn a lot about the SKS here, either by browsing or asking questions...we are unlike other boards here and you won't be penalized for asking about stuff that has been asked before. We just love the lil buggers!

Tbone13

Ohio, too eh?   :)
Welcome to the forum that knows the DNA of these old girls.
There is a wealth of reading in the old threads- I did that for a week before I even signed up.
Lots of good stuff there.

DegoLocc

Hell yeah guys, lots of Ohio boys here I see.
