Just thought i would start a little something to keep them in one place.

There are several ways to pin a mag in canada and some are hideous, some barely notice.

#1
Pin welded to the bottom of the follower.

newchi

#2
Stud/block riveted at the front of the magazine.

newchi

#3
stud/block riveted at the middle of the magazine or front of the wider part of the mag, however you want to call it.
Two sized rivet heads in my collection.

newchi

The last example i have on hand.

#4
The pin pinned to the follower pin.

I don't hold with mag limits.
But if I did, I'd prefer the pin that's welded to the follower. It's not a numbered part, and it would be easier to return the rifle to original configuration if that silly law is ever repealed.

glad i don't have to do that(yet), thanks for sharing.
ARMY NAM VET, SO PROUD!

Yeah, thanks Newchi for showing these in one place. I'm with Larry on choice of pinning that would least ruin the mag.

There are others, including some ugly ugly ones but these are all i have access to, maybe someone else will add to it

This is actually really interesting to see from an American standpoint where I've never actually seen a pinned mag up close. I did find a Russian once that had a hole drilled in the bottom of the mag that I believe is suspect of Canadian origin, but other than that, nada.
I too am glad to see importers utilize less invasive styles of pins like the ones attached to the follower. leaves the possibilities open without a more ugly mark upon the original look.  thumb1

I also prefer the follower pin, as a US citizen.
If I were Canadian...I might be a bit worried about it.
It took me longer to open the packaging the magazine came in than to remove the pin....although, the example here is a little more globby with the spot weld.  I just wish Canadian SKSs came with matching magazines more often....it's the one item on my Russian that doesn't match the original gun, or the Canadian gun that humped it back to life.   But aside from the tiny hole on the follower....it suits the bill.

Unfortunately the one time I have seen a 49 magazine in the wild...without the pin for the spring stud, it had that monstrosity of the #3 pin type.  It was being sold in the US, and I think the guy wanted $79 BIN for it...when $35-40 was the high end of the going rate. Glad I am not looking for one of those anymore....unfettered, I would probably paid $179 for it.

Do you think it's becaue they remove the mags for welding and don't care which one went/goes back on the guns? Or are they imported without mags? I don't know the import process up in Canada of USA for that matter.  :))

And I'm sure that some enterprising soul has put a pin clear through the magazine width wise.  Sacrilege, I tell ya :(.  I suppose next up is to cut the chargers in half.  Good luck to ya up there.

I am pretty sure that is the consensus....it wouldn't surprise me if the exporter had to remove all of the magazines and send them into Canada 'inoperable'. Kinda like how effective it is against crime to take bayonets off during the AWB, and put them back into the friggin box.    If someone had to go to the trouble of putting them back to the proper gun, Canadian SKS prices might be closer to Classic's prices...  :P

newchi

I think that happens a lot with surplus.
Some minimun wage monkey is hired to wipe the worst of the grease off and either pin mags or etch importer names depending on can or us.
which would be ok if it was one monkey working through one crate at a time, but its a handful of monkeys, probably getting paid piece work.  So does the same mag go back, (or the same bayonet for mosins) nope.   Thats why theres 3 extra pouches or cleaning kits in one crate and 5 less in another imo

A lovely way to bastardize a perfectly good magazine.Penalize the law abiding but the criminals will just snip the post off in seconds with a die grinder cut off blade because the law doesn't affect them in any way.
When guns are outlawed only outlaws will have guns.
