2 weeks ago or so on gunbroker I won a rifle marketed as a "chinese sniper sks" I have not been able to find another rifle configured like this anywhere else on the internet. Theres a lot I dont know yet but here is what I do know.

1. It does not have a type 89 profile dovetail like the Navy Arms Cowboy Companion, Sharpshooter, or briklee hunter. It instead utilizes a bzm-1 profile dovetail along with the proper bzm-1 mount and scope (It even lights up!)

2. The gun is all numbers matching, and the stock looks like it has been factory cut. It was imported by KFS (Im going to email them to see if I can get anymore info from them)

3. The case for the scope is something ive never seen before, but seems to be made for the scope. (Someone told me it was like other scope cases for the chinese military but i have yet to verify that with any hard evidence.) It even came with a darkened lens that screws into the front wrapped in some paper and put in the pouch on the lid. It also came with a small brush with chinese characters on it.

Its gonna be a fun time figuring out what this rifle actually is, would love to hear some opinions from others on it.

Super neat gun to say the least....

It seems all the parts, minus the case are listed here:
http://chinesesks.weebly.com/navy-smr.html

The only thing missing is the name of whatever they called it.  Perhaps looking up some old Navy Arms ads might lend some insight?
Long ago, I acquired a (what I assume to be) NA stock with the cutout for whatever model, I seem to recall it not being finished where the cut was, but just as precisely done...I could be wrong, I have since refinished it.  :-[

If only Joe was still around so we could ask him.  :(

Its not a Navy Arms gun/ Import. Its a Kengs out of GA which makes this a little more interesting

I have a NA standard unissued type 56 with a similar type 4 rail and according to NA at the time the mounting rail and accepts type 89 or the bzm scopes that they also sold separately as well.http://chinesesks.weebly.com/navy-smr.html

Some of the navy arms imports had bzm-1 scopes attached to them but the bzm-1 also had its own specific mount that used its own profile rail that is not interchangeable with type 90 profile rails

Possibly. Are you able to measure the width of your rail?Mine measures .420"(10.66mm) across the dovetail and about 2.450" o.a.l.

I dont have anything to measure it offhand. But I know the bzm-1 specific mounts and rails are different from the type 89 mounts and rails for a fact. The bzm-1 mount dovetail is a small profile and the the lever/screw with notched wheel sides and the little piece of metal that helps retain after each "click" is bzm-1 mount specific as I have never seen any type 89 mount configured like this.

Kind of strange how the receiver side rail you have there looks added on or replaced in that the rivets are not blued to match the gun as all the other rails I've seen.

it definitely is. Ive never seen one where the rivets were blued to match the dovetail either, but ive never seen anything added stateside with rivets either. Its definitely an odd duck

Yours is definitely interesting. I didn't know KFS imported any scoped Type 56's. So many of NA's were cut-off barrel, "Para" models, with no bayonet and un-numbered stocks. This one is exactly what I would want in a scoped Type 56. I know NA had the Farmers Friend, but I really wasn't that impressed with it.

Curious, have you actually tried putting a Type 89 mount on yours? Your rail looks really similar but I wouldn't know unless I had the exact diminsions or a mount to try and slip on it.

I'm not familiar with the case for the scope. The transit case that came with my Type 89 scope and mount is green with a velvet-like material covering it. It's shaped more like a box, too.

Very cool to see something new-to-me! And something new that came from KFS. I've spoken to them and they're helpful and give you lots of history and background when talking on the phone with them.

Hope to hear some cool new facts after you get with them! thumb1

**Oh yeah, could you post up pics of the full left side of the receiver? I'd like to see all details that I can. And, the right side as well, if there's any info stamped on that side.

Wow, where'd you find a Type 89 mount? Was the price high? I haven't seen any for sale in a long while. Congrats on the find! Did it have the steel "cinching straps", (for lack of the correct term), that hold the scope to the mount? So many of those were stretched, broken, or lost. Is yours the thumbscrew type or the lever type?

Found it on an auction website, bands for holding the scope included. Its the thumbscrew type. My better half and I are going fishing tooday but ill have those pics later tonight
