Welcome aboard Bill...  glad to see you finally made it.   :)

1776 will commence again if you try to take our firearms... It doesn't matter how many Lenins you get out on the street begging for them to be taken.

Welcome Bill!  Glad you wandered over. Wish I were in warm sunny San Diego rather than up here in the very cool north end of the west coast  :))

I'd really like to see your Brno Israeli Mauser if you ever feel like posting pics.  I've got a large ring Spanish Mauser in 7.62x51, an FR8, that I enjoy.  I would think a K98k to x51 conversion would be a really sweet shooter.

my Czech BRNO Israeli mauser was a century ufixem for $150. it had some slight rust and bare metal. I polished everything smooth and a guy in los angeles from calguns.net parkerized it on all metal parts and also 10 german mauser WWII stripper clips for $50. it had no finish left on stock and has some gouges but no cracks. I checked everything over and checked head space and all was good. I bought some 7.62X51 from wal mart and fired it last trip to desert. it was extremely accurate. my buddy had a sling he had on his german mauser he had replaced so I got it. I get a chance I will post some photos of it. I been busy doing my 42 PU mosin nagant and reloading some 180 gr sierra for it in some ppu brass.

if me I would buy RCBS press. the lee press and dies are not as good quality or ease of use "in my opinion". I bought a lee setup, but went to my friends house to help him and he had RCBS setup. it worked slick and we were doing 7.62X54R for our mosin nagants. I ended up reselling my lee stuff and now we go to his house to do reloading on his.
he has AK47 and I have SKS so next will be 7.62X39 for those.
I found 50 6.5X55 ( I have CG M96 1917 Swedish mauser and 1 Husqvarna 1943 Swedish short rifle) 1 time fired shell cases free from a pay it forward on calguns.net and so I gave 50 7.62X51 lake city 1 time fired as my pay it forward. (I love pay it forward)

Hi Bill, and welcome.  I think you're one of the good guy club, and it's good to see you here.

Only food prep I've been doing so far this year is apple dehydration.  Nuthin fancy just getting it done.  Some times they're a little too dry, but they still munch pretty good.  I plan on setting up the pressure canner pretty soon and doing a couple batches of meat.

When it comes to buying Lee reloading stuff, I kinda pick and choose.  I've finally got a few of their die sets, and have no problem with them.  I also prefer RCBS presses, or other solid steel "O" types.  I love the Lee trim method, and for the money you can't beat the bullet molds and push through sizing die system they've got.

Later dude.  jd

Welcome Bill.  I just got here myself.  God Bless!!
I would rather live my life believing in God, and upon my death discover that He doesn't exist, than to not believe and upon my death discover that He does!!!

Bill!!  Really glad to have you over here man.

Hiya Bill , Glad to see ya here.

Next to my love of the SKS and the study of 'em. Food prep and storage comes next. I consider both great hobbies.

JD, In my area rehydrating dried apples ( sun dried or food dehydrator) is the ONLY way to go for making fried apple pies. If you haven't had em before , I would suggest giving em a try, they are delicious. +1 on canning meats ... hard to find a better way of making tough cuts fork tender, ( oldest can I've had personaly, was a 6 yr old can of deer and it was terrific.)
Hippies are like stray cats...Feed 'em once and they never leave...then they stink up your couch.

I guess we're not stompin on Bill's thread since he's the one who mentioned food prep.

I just tossed a handful of my apples in a bowl of water to see how they come out.

The constancy I like best is kind of leathery but not too hard.  They probably keep better long term if they're completely dry (hard) though.  Sometimes I sprinkle a little water in the bag and let them sit for a day or so to soften up a little.

I've got one of those apple whackers that you just push the apple through, and it cores it and knocks it into eight wedges.  I'm leaving the hide on for health and lazy reasons.  jd

I love doing the apples. I gave a gallon zip lock bag full of red delishous dehydrated to my grand daughter 2 days ago. she stands there eating them and her mom is saying "geez cant you at least wait till we get in the car?"

Thats awesome Bill. Give a kid dried fruit, that has not had it before and they think their eating candy. Bannana chips are great, Their better fried though , gives them a good snap.

Yea JD, I always go for a softer, leathery feel as well. Don't know why I've never left the skin on though ( perhaps cuz they need to be peeled for fried pies) I'm gonna give that a try next time.

Have either of yall tried turnips before? I've got access to a BUNCH and the colder it gets, the sweeter their getting.

I mostly leave the hides on oughta laziness, and tell myself that they're good for ya.  I'd take them off for pie apples.

Never tried turnips.  I think most vegies would be great though, specially to add to soups.  jd
