I won this K-Sports Hunter 1979-80 short barrel today on the Gunbroker.
Joe helped me out with the ID.  ;)

I was watching that one as it snuck under the radar.  Great find Alfred... you almost never see the wooden K-Sports variation.   thumb1

1776 will commence again if you try to take our firearms... It doesn't matter how many Lenins you get out on the street begging for them to be taken.

Thanks, I won it this morning and I sent payment today.
This will be my first sort barrel SKS, it looks like a pined barrel which is fine by me I like the idea of a Chrome line barrel along with a Chrome Chamber also.

I plan to shoot the heak out of it.

Life is good.  :)

It was made from a 24m serial Jianshe /26\ rifle.  It will have a short-lug threaded barrel.  All Chinese sks carbines have a full chrome bore and chamber.

Alfred, if that was a girl I'd ask her to dance...that's a purty thang!

Well that's good news.
Learning every day, thanks for the info.

Great score...I SO wish that my 78/79 had the matching stock...its hard to find ANY of those types of stocks with the recess for the inverted take down lever at all though...one day, I will find an unserialed one...probably soon considering the lack o funds in my paypal account.  ::)

Well I received my rifle today.

I think I did very well.

No rust of any kind, 100% bluing intacked.

All numbers Match, Receiver, Bolt & Bolt Carrier, Mag, trigger guard, Receiver cover, and the Stock.

Nice looking sling, cleaning kit is inside the buttstock.

I am liking this rifle more then I thought I would, it is like a new gun still has the grease or cosmaline inside, I  can't wait to shoot it.

One of my good friends told me today he would of not bought my rifle because it was neutered and did not have the bayonet lug or a place for the cleaning rod, I told him that's funny because that's why I got it because it came from China that way. dance1

Is this rifle more rare then the more common Paratroopers ?

Will I hurt the value shooting it ?

I sincerely hope not because I'm gonna keep this one and any gun I keep I shoot.  tommy1

Sounds like you got a very nice carbine.....  one thing you may want to consider is getting a dif stock to beat around with. That way you will save the original serial matching stock from getting beat up.

Thats what I would do... slap a cheap stock on there and go to town shooting....

Loose}{Cannon :
If that's the case maybe I should store this one away and use one of my older guns as a shooter ?

Is this gun in your eyes a collectible SKS ?
Thanks,
Alfred

Loose}{Cannon

I would say its collectable for sure....  plenty of guys are dedicated and love the commercial variations.   Especially the ones that are still as imported and variations that are harder to find.  Like this one.

I would shoot it..... just dont beat it.   thumb1

Which picture are you referring to ?
What is the barrel lug ?
Thanks,
Alfred

Loose}{Cannon

This one...   the fatter part of the barrel where it meets the receiver.   Just to the left of the #34
