This was further north than I'd probably have driven, but it still yanked my chain !  cry1
As expected, it got snagged quick.

(BTW, it's a '49 Tula, for $450, from a legit seller.)

That is definitely NOTa 1949 gun.

It's a late 1952 -1958 gun with a 1949 dated cover. One of the most common mistakes when dating Soviet SKS45

It's got a curved forward gas port ( late 1952 and later)
Double tab RSB lever (1954 and later)
Narrow tab on the cover take-down lever (1951 and later)
Left RSB machining cut (late 1952 and later design)

Heavy refurb. But the stock is nice. IMHO, $450 is a good deal for that gun. But not much more.

But....  the cover is numbers matching and clearly states 1949.

1776 will commence again if you try to take our firearms... It doesn't matter how many Lenins you get out on the street begging for them to be taken.

Laugh, if you don't know LC you might think he was being serious instead of facetious!  rofl2

It's a mismatching gun KD.  Price is fine for a refurbed '54+ but it's not now nor will it ever be a '49.

LC is  kidding.

Restamped eplacement covers  on Soviet SKS 45s are the bane (one of many banes) of the Soviet sks collectors everywhere.

To verify the suspected date of any Soviet sks,  you gotta examine  the various design changes that were implented over 10 years of Soviet production.

Yeah, I finally tuned into LC's sarcasm there, it just took a couple minutes before I got completely up to speed (DOH!!  dance2 )
Thanks again to all for the (as usual) solid info!
