BR7.62

unwrapped this today, i like it.
i dont think it was carried or fired much....
anybody know which proofs are the fire proofs, im probably getting that term wrong.
but after test fire i mean. guessing rear of barrel on left but i dont see any hint of bare metal in them.
i'd like to smack the guy w/ the idea to translate stamp the serno!

Beautiful gun 7.62.  You don't see Izhevsks in that condition often, very nice indeed.

Proofs should be on the side of the barrel lug.  I've typically seen a (o) on the left, often a (K) on the right lug.  There are often many other stamps though.  Truth is, nobody knows the detailed history of these proof marks, whether they remained constant transitioning from Mosin->SVT->SKS, whether they stayed consistent throughout SKS production from '48 to '58 & Tula to Izhevsk, and whether they were consistently applied to the same part of the rifle in all cases.

The S/N restamp was how CAI decided they wanted to translate the Cyrillic into Roman font.  To be honest, they are probably the most desirable of the big 4 importers with regard to import stamps from the '92-94 import window.

awesome ok thanks. those two proofs are used on soviet ak as well.
i would almost be willing to bet somewhere there is/was a blueprint w/ a spec calling for placement of those proofs.
maybe somebody will turn it up?
i had no idea these were imported so long ago either.
do you remember how much they went for?

That is beautiful.  8)

Is that a stamp or something else that happened to the front of the gas block?

That’s a truly beautiful Izhevsk!  thumb1  8)

My ‘54 Izhevsk is an ex-ex-DDR  :))

Nice to see those non-Bar-B-Q'd '54 Izzy's!  I bought two of the '54 Izzy's before the days of SKS "collectors", SKS websites, and all of the different dates/models to collect. It was the time of "I want a Rushin' SKS!",...no direction of intelligent buying at all.  :)  Mine are both refurbs with Bar-B-Q paint. I just liked the year of manufacture... thumb1

  Very nice acquisition, BR7.62!
