Couldn't think of anything clever to say in my subject line so "Hi" will just have to do.

As far as a little about me, I like SKSes, I like 'em a lot. I have more than one but less than a hundred. Of course they were all lost in a horrible boating accident. I live in CT as my name implies (hopefully not forever) so the SKS holds an even more special spot in my heart as one of the few semi-auto military style firearms in 7.62x39 that I can still legally own without some fascist registration eyeball1 so if I ever decide to dredge the lake I'll be all set. Thanks for having me here, I'll try to add value and not be a jerk. I am not usually a trouble maker but hopefully I fit in OK here anyway.  :)
It's sad that the motto of young Americans isn't "live free or die" or "I regret that I have but one life to give for my country" or even "ask not what your country can do for you but what you can do for your country". Instead their motto is "pee yourself, shelter in place and cry for help". Pathetic.

Hi Rain Tax.  How does that actually work?

Yeah, rain tax. Not in my neck of the woods but I guess some CT cities have tried to impose a fee for rainwater that runs off of your property, especially hard surfaces like paved driveways. I guess they say it adds to the cost of running a city sewer drain system. I live in the country so I don't think it would be an issue here. Point is though, if there is any way to tax something CT will find it and if there isn't they will just make something up and lie about it.

1776 will commence again if you try to take our firearms... It doesn't matter how many Lenins you get out on the street begging for them to be taken.

Hi Carl, Glad to see ya here.

You'd think with all the unfortunate boating accidents, we SKS enthusiasts seem to have.... We would learn to stop loading them Bayonet first into the boat. Oh well live and learn  8)

Wait, is that why this keeps happening? It just seemed like a convenient way to load them on the boat. Huh, maybe you are onto something.  think1

Thanks LC. Yeah, a cyber trail blazer I am not. If not for the invite from Justin I might not have found my way.

What has to be registered and what is outright banned?
What about SVT40? G43? AK? Hakim? AR? What about a k98 with a 20-rd detachable trench mag?

Sorry about leaving people in the dark, some of the admin here have been hand slapped & accused of soliciting members from the 'other' board...
It's asinine to think that there can't be two SKS specific boards in the entire internet.  The way I figure it, people will tend gravitate to the one they like the best.   banana time

Good to be here RM and I don't feel left in the dark just because it took me a little while to get here. I am honored to have been invited and I understand why it's a touchy subject "soliciting" people even though it shouldn't be, no reason there can't be two SKS sites. I still plan on frequenting both as long as I'm welcome both places. Good people all around but it is good to take a fresh look at things and be open to fresh perspectives.

It's a bunch of stuff and the dates are different but I'll take a stab at it. The AK-47 and any variant have been banned in CT since the around Clinton ban, give or take. I believe they were grandfathered in but you needed to register them and can never buy another one. SKSes of all variations are legal in their original configuration, including D's, M's, Type 84's and Sporters and do not require any registration.

Any semi-auto centerfire rifle with a detachable mag can have no evil features so no pistol grip, no thumbhole stock (monte carlo is ok I think), no forward grip, no folding or telescopic stock, no threads on the muzzle so no flash suppressor but muzzle break is ok as long as it's welded on. All magazines are restricted to 10 rounds, even .22 rimfire so if you have a SKS-M you had to register any high cap mags when the law went into effect and of course you cannot buy more now. Initially .22 rimfires fell through their commie net but they changed it to include them but I think they do allow one evil feature on them but still only 10 round mags. Tube mags are exempt for .22 rimfire so my Marlin 60's with 18 round tube mags are ok for now. Bayonet lugs and bayonets are no longer considered an evil feature, they used to be. AR-15's and all AR type rifles are banned and previously owned ones must have been registered prior to whatever date the moonbats pulled out of their hats.

SVT-40 is fine since it's a fixed mag but even all fixed mags are restricted to 10 rounds, even tube mags for centerfire rifles. There are other shotgun and handgun restrictions too, but we won't go there right now. There are a bunch of guns banned by name regardless of features and the list is too long for this but the AK, AR, Hi Point Carbines are all listed and any clone/copy/variant is considered the same. Until the new law CT folks could get around the old AK ban, sorta, by getting a VZ but those are no-go's now too because they are so evil and scary looking.

The Hakim (and Rasheed) should be ok with their 10 round fixed mags. The G43 is ok since it has no evil features beyond the detachable mag as long as there are no high cap G43 mags around (those don't exist do they?). The K98 should be ok even with a 20 round trench mag since it's a bolt action. Beware though, I am not a lawyer nor a sleazy anti-gun CT politician so I may not be 100% right on everything but I'm pretty close I think.

Jeeze Carl, that sounds pretty bad.  Isn't CT the "Constitution" State?  How does CT compair to like NY or CA?

I'm going to make him an offer he can't refuse......

Leave the gun, take the cannoli.

I said I was an addict........I didn't say I had a problem

Blicero

Interesting. Well, no, tragic or disappointing might be more suitably spoken.

It sounds like you're decently versed on what's verboten, as well you should be. I only asked because I had a job offer pop up in Connecticut last month after an old classmate took over a Christian academy up there, so I was wondering what in my collection would be a no-go if I had the inclination to move to yankee country...which I don't. I don't think they'd appreciate my Hindu agenda either.

The SVT40 does use a detachable mag but the way I read it, it's still OK there since a bayonet lug isn't an evil feature. I've never heard of hi-cap g43 mags.

Oh well. At least you can still have some righteous & iconic ww2 rifles legally. Give it 5 years though  >:(

Welcome aboard.

Blicero, don't come here, stay away, just stay away! Not that I wouldn't love to have more conservative gun loving types here but it's just not a good place. It's not just the gun laws that suck it's the highest taxes in the US, or at least in top 3, the highest cost of living in the US, or at least top 3, and it's going to get worse here. It is alarming how many for sale signs there are in front of houses here. People are leaving CT at a higher rate than any other state but the number of people on entitlement keeps going up because CT is far too liberal in what it gives away to welfare people so they flock here. That means the folks that are leaving are the tax payers.

CT is already upside down, it can't pay it's bills and house values have been plummeting for years. Our economy is trashed and they just keep raising taxes on people and small businesses who are the ones who pay the bills. So more and more of them just leave. When my kids are done with high school in a few more years I may be gone too if I can sell my house for enough to pay it off.

This mid term election will be telling. There is more anger at the Democrats than I have ever seen here but not sure it will be enough to move any of them out. They are in thick here. We are similar to NY and CA in gun laws although NY may be slightly worse. We are similar in communist politics resulting in failed economies.
