Ya know, that actually gives me some ideas for a cheek rest that would work pretty well.  That system could be done a little nicer, and look a lot better without too much hassle.  jd

Yeah these pics have been around for many years. The mount on the left appears to be a version on the PU mount and the other one I have no clue. Can any of the Mosin collectors around here identify the exact model, year or rifle these mounts were used on. Thanks.

There is so much controversy about Russian or Chinese sniper versions of the SKS being "real" or not. Is there any definitive evidence that either country built such a rifle in their factories or are these simply modified by individual riflemen in different countries for street fighting maybe?

I don't understand why the Russians would have built a sniper version of their SKS when the plentiful Mosin was proven to be so much better suited for the role. Also I have read when the Dragunov was created in the early 60's they were built and fielded for a "designated marksmen" as a "sniper" was not in their TO&E.

Thanks for answering my question Joe, that's what I was wondering. I sure would like to spend a little time shooting them just to be able to say I did!

      I have a carcano carbine in the 6.5 flavor that I mounted a scope on like that-none of the original mounts could be found so I used one fron a Savage 325 and bent it slightly to give clearance for the loading and  extraction--you rotate the scope 90 degrees to allow for adjustment.  Rather strange looking.

My daughter in law found it at a yard sale for $30--of course it didn't look very good then.
