Bought one of these just wanting to see what the deal was. Drove the pin out, put a wrench on the lug and started to counter clock-wise it.....it actually started unscrewing....all the way out, but you see what I see......looks like the receiver once had threads, now removed...and the barrel almost looks like it has a sleeve on it??? I couldn't find my micrometer just yet.....but sure is an interesting find.

Neat stuff Pat!!    thumb1

What's the chamber side of the barrel look like?

These things should have a very light press fit.  Receiver should be .0002" to .0005" undersize vs. the barrel.   It looks like the major diameter on the female thread of the receiver is just a hair larger than the barrel lug, only a small spiral shaped area on this receiver is actually in contact with the barrel.   Very interesting.

My question is...

If you mill off the OD threads of the barrel, then mill off the ID threads of the receiver....  How is it even a press fit?  There would be a gap, and like he says... A sleeve?   Are we just seeing tooling marks on the receiver and there never was any threads?  Basically a standard pinned barrel accepting receiver with an ID already usable to accept an milled down barrel?  Has anyone even pulled a regular pinned barrel ... Maybe these tooling marks are normal.

Good guestions.....I'll mic it out tomorrow. It was definitely a light press fit.

I tried pulling the pinned barrel out on my SKS/Tavor project. Tried several different methods, including a 20 ton press. It wouldn't budge. I have read online that other people who attempted this as well had the same results. Never could find mention of someone who was successful.  dash2

I pulled one   :))    I sold the barrel but I still have the receiver somewhere.  Ill try and find it if I remember.  The rails done blew apart... Epic failure

LOL yep. Receiver destruction seems to be the only way to to remove a pinned barrel. I laugh when I see people who say they don't want a pinned barrel SKS. If they only knew how well it was put together.  chuckles1

It was a receiver that failed... Thats what was epic.
