I took a chance on an incomplete carbine, and it arrived in the mail earlier this week.

Wait for it....

I had to add a few parts, and couldn't find a operating rod spring, so I stretched out a trigger group hammer spring, and I think it will do just fine.

Wait for it....

Still needs a cleaning rod, as my only spare was a Yugo and it just wouldn't fit.

Wait for it....

Chinese mag, Romanian trigger group, blade style side swivel Chinese stock.

You had better be waiting....

No import marks, and you'll see why very soon.  Some pics.

I SAID, "WAIT FOR IT!!!!"

fineprint

Dang it, and you scrolled right down to here, didn't you?

This is a little out of place.  But it is a non-import, and likely Vietnam bringback.

S E X Y!!!!!!  :)   Keep er' going!!!!!

Oh wow!  A mix master with parts from darn near everywhere bringback!

Should I put it in the spare East German stock?

That would solve the missing cleaning rod dilemma for good.

Lol, it figures you'd have an East German stock just hanging about in the spare parts bin room. I think that M21 is good just as it is...

...but now I know who to go begging to if I ever run across a DDR SKS in the wrong stock  :o I guess it'll help if it's in a Chinese stock numbered 943###

Coolest mixmaster ever!  What a conversation starter that is!
When the Cambrian measures were forming, They promised perpetual peace.
They swore, if we gave them our weapons, that the wars of the tribes would cease.
But when we disarmed They sold us and delivered us bound to our foe,
And the Gods of the Copybook Headings said: "Stick to the Devil you know."

Is this even in the right sub-forum?

Nice score, m08.

I'm still not clear which of the parts listed above were added and which ones were on the rifle when you acquired it.

The seller didn't happen to tell you his name was Ed Gein did he?

1776 will commence again if you try to take our firearms... It doesn't matter how many Lenins you get out on the street begging for them to be taken.

Looks deceiving.    rofl

And you would be correct, sir!   :))

I can't keep up the ruse forever.

This M21 came to me as a stripped barreled receiver only from padams8888.  He bought it a couple of months ago, and didn't finish building it.

I added everything to it from the parts bins.  I've had the North Korean bolt group (Afghanistan bringback parts) for many years, wondering what the heck to do with it.  And this M21 non-import was as close as anything I have seen that was worthy of wearing the parts.

It'll be novelty.  If you see it many years from now, advertised as a super rare bringback, remember where you saw it first.  Glorified parts bin special!

You had me fooled until you came clean about it.   :)

"Remember"?! "Many years from now"?! Apparently I couldn't remember back 5 weeks when you and Pat were discussing this one  bat1  chuckles1

Martin08--

Have you test fired it yet? I'm curious to find out how the trigger-spring works as a jury-rigged replacement for the op-rod spring.

I've done the trigger/op rod spring trick before.  No issues.

Taking it out for a test run today.  I'll report back.

And for those who keep track, here is the full serial number for the M21.

The good.

Not using a bench or sand bags, just elbows propped across the hood of my car,  I could shoot a 4" group at 60 yards.

The bad.

It would not cycle, and the casings remained stuck firmly in the chamber.   I can find no evidence of a particular snagging point (burr gouge) on the shell casings.  I had given a cursory look down the pipe before firing, but hadn't examined the chamber closely.  Looks like some carbon/crud build-up and a potential snagging point (6 o'clock) will have to be addressed.

AND THE UGLY!!!   :-[

When you go to the camp-lot range and don't bring a dead blow hammer, you can improvise with a stick of firewood.  When the first tap doesn't have enough oomph, you can hit it HARD with the next blow.

Just remember where your fingers are.  When the shell casing becomes unstuck, the block of wood follows the rearward motion of the bolt carrier.

Looks like a basket case. I'll run up there and take it off your hands, I have a safe it can go into all by itself, that way it doesn't hurt anybody again! rofl

53 years later and that dang Communist Chinese machinery is still drawing blood from Yankees  :))

Hopefully it'll be an easy fix with a little chamber cleaning/polishing.
