1776 will commence again if you try to take our firearms... It doesn't matter how many Lenins you get out on the street begging for them to be taken.

I always love seeing these pics.  Certainly a french tickler handguard and III rear sight leaf on these bad boys.  Seems pretty easy to go from fresh in the crate to ready for action with a book of matches, 2 pots, and a gallon or two of water.  thumb1

When the Cambrian measures were forming, They promised perpetual peace.
They swore, if we gave them our weapons, that the wars of the tribes would cease.
But when we disarmed They sold us and delivered us bound to our foe,
And the Gods of the Copybook Headings said: "Stick to the Devil you know."

ARMY NAM VET, SO PROUD!

Those are fairly modern pics (see car design).  The guns had been in crates for 30 years or more.

The dudes all seem to have the same facial pox.  Cosmo fumes?  Bad water?

They need a deeper pot.  I've used the hot water method before but I pour it into a 4" diameter PVC tube capped at one end and only immerse the barreled action and other disassembled metal pieces. I usually add Dawn or another detergent to help disperse the Cosmoline (after skimming the bulk of it off the top).  Then spray down with RemOil after a hot water rinse (outside, because the solvent in the RemOil flashes off). I prefer dry heat for bleeding out the cosmo from the wood.

That's a result of Pixelpox, a very disturbing emerging digital virus transmitted epidermally through the thumbs of digital device users  :o  rofl

Yeah I was going to say they don't even break down the gun, I bet the gas tube and spots between the stock and receiver are still pretty gooey after this process.  No breakdown of the bolt either.  ???

I wonder if the wood swells much after being bathed like that?  I'm with you Jon, I like dry natural heat (dashboard on the farm truck always does the trick) for sweating my stocks.  I never have to worry about going too far temperature wise (like near a stove or with a heat gun)  As an added bonus, I get to smell the grease for weeks driving around town after I sweat one!   thumb1

rofl  and Cosmoline, or similar preservative greases, are mostly just high boiling hydrocarbons, so no chloracne to worry about  thumb1

I always thought that would be best, but havent brought anything during the summer recently

I bet they just boiled off the big stuff and actually 'cleaned' them after the fact.

I saved these pics a few years ago off a page where military guys were talking about some national pride shooting day something or other... They got to break out the old guns and shoot them.
