It took me about a Year and a half to persuade the former owner that I needed this more than Him  :)  A Remington Cane Rifle in .22 short, percussion models where made starting in 1858 with Rimfire models (.22 and .32RF) starting in 1868-1888  I have read there where anywhere from 1800 to Approx. 4500 of these manufactured, and up Intel fairly recently where considered an NFA weapon. The barrel of the rifle is only 7" long and is housed inside of a brass shaft which is covered in Gutta Purcha. The end of the cane would have had a piece of cork in it to keep dirt and debris out of the shaft. The barrel assembly is screwed into the handle which houses the firing mechanism. Firing the gun requires that the handle be pulled back to a cocked position while holding onto the shaft of the cane, It is then fired by depressing the button trigger under the handle of the Cane.

My cane rifle does not have one of the typical handles but rather was either a custom cane made by Remington (which they often did) or an "aftermarket" handle was added sometime after, the handle is made out of aluminum. The firing mechanism still works properly, but needless to say I have not Fired it...............

Now that is a kool piece of history.  Perhaps not the most practical self defense weapon, but better than nothing and quite inconspicuous.   thumb1

Were they taken off NFA list as a result of a legal battle or did ATF just get tired of fielding questions about .22 canes?

I'm not positive but I'm pretty sure it is just the Remington canes that are now excempt or maybe it was all antique cane guns....... I don't remember 100% but I think modern cane guns are still NFA regulated....

There is also a pen gun... I have run across...known as the Stinger Pen Gun. Never would have thought, but they run over a grand if you find one.
I'm going to make him an offer he can't refuse......

Leave the gun, take the cannoli.

I said I was an addict........I didn't say I had a problem
