1776 will commence again if you try to take our firearms... It doesn't matter how many Lenins you get out on the street begging for them to be taken.

Me either.  That is definitely a verry neat and interesting rifle!   thumb1

To the op or anyone else knowledgable in these,  is that a "rotary" mag that it uses?

Yes it uses a 10 round rotary mag, 1903 stripper clips are used for loading. It can also be topped off at any point.......which was one of the "selling features" when it competed against the Garand

An uber-cool gun.  Good show.

I kick myself for passing on a few of these when they were still under $2,500.  Now, anything less than five grand is a good deal.

Yes 5.5k-6k is the current rate for a good condition original Johnson Rifle..... in the early 50s Winfield bought a bunch of them and converted them to a Sporter rifle.
They made them in .270, 7mm, and of course 30-06. They Blued the receivers added new front sights, rubber butt pad, and you could even get them with a scope installed...... you could also buy them from Winfield in original military configuration for $68.50  :o

I have the Winfield Sporter, and I am not ashamed to say it's a sporter :), even these will tend to float in that price range.. simply due to the overwhelming rarity of the Johnson. Neither version, much less an original can be had cheap, and neither are common to find, and parts, that can be a real joy if you break something. The last Winfield I saw was in Chantilly Va about a year and a half ago, at the Nations Gunshow, the pricetag read $8500, I didn't even see an original at that show to compare with. :o

Nice Rifle GM! Is the receiver blued? And I assume it is 30-06?

It is still .30-06, and with the age and wear, I'd say this one was left with it's parkerized finish. It's more grey, and still has the slightly rougher finish.

Just before Christmas, I bought a real poor one for $1200 and sold it within a week to a young fellow who collects military stuff.  I remember seeing one about 30 years ago at a gun show in Regina, SK for $350.

Very nice.
Those are real beauties.
Always wanted to run a mag or two through one.
