My post count isn't high enough yet to access the serial data-- so I'm curious what are the earliest serials for non-/26\ arsenals.

I have a 7th year (seven digit) carbine Stamped from /6166\ or /6616\, but I'm curious to find out if there are possibly any 6th year non-/26\ guns and, how many other arsenals were producing in the early 60's? And in what year the evidence indicates that the other arsenals started showing up? Was it a steady build up or did a whole bunch of arsenals just start producing the type56 in a short span of time?

Thanks,

Boris B.

Wait!

I just realized that my 7th /6166\ might actually be an early 70's gun.

Anyone care to enlighten me?

Serial number 7001271. Short lug. So obivously not a 7th year carbine.

Disregard most of my initial post.

I've answered most of my questions over at chinesesks dating page.

New Question:

Did the other arsenals show up en masse or does the serial evidence show a steady and gradual increase in the number of typr56 arsenals?

1776 will commence again if you try to take our firearms... It doesn't matter how many Lenins you get out on the street begging for them to be taken.

11th year from /106\ and /116\

Were they low output arsenals?

I know the /26\ serials suggest that over half a million were produced at Jianshe in the 11th year.

Thanks

Would seem like a ramp up and then a drop off near the end

/?5\ also has year 11's as does /416\.  Not terribly many of them around though.

Your /6166\ is very likely a 70's gun.  Hard to say w/o seeing it.

Where is this 6166?   I must be over looking it.  :-\

I forget.

...

I figured out my initial inquiry: this isn't a 7th year gun. Its a 15th year gun 1970.

Secondary question was how quickly or steadily did the non-26 arsenal appear. In a flash  or gradually over a long period of years? Did the majority of them show up en masse when /26\ went off line in the 70s?

[also, where do babies come from? (this may be the most important question)]

I'd consider that a 1970 built gun Boris. Looks like a nice one at that.  thumb1

There was a smattering of arsenals at year 11, then they slowly opened up more through year 16 when /26\ stopped producing. Lots of arsenals opened up shop after that.  By year 25, only a few of the higher producing small shops remained and the latest year for a new build military gun I've seen is year 29.
