Hello,

Recently found the site here after searching the net for some more SKS information.

I currently own two.  One is a Norinco and the one I'm working on to make a more tactical weapon - that project is nearing completion. The other is a Yugo, unmodified and something I keep as an original battle rifle.  I enjoy shooting both and working on the project Norinco.

Although they are heavy rifles, I like the simplicity of design and ease of working on SKSs.  Definitely have a solid feel when shooting them.

And in case anyone is wondering I track my Norinco with a 922r compliance spreadsheet so it remains legal as I swap parts and try different combinations.  It's still a good/fun project even within those rules.

Very nice PK, welcome aboard!  I hope you enjoy it here, lots of great people here with a wealth of knowledge.

Would love to see how your project turned out.  thumb1

1776 will commence again if you try to take our firearms... It doesn't matter how many Lenins you get out on the street begging for them to be taken.

Thanks for the welcome!

Here are some pictures.  These are the two together:

Below is just the Norinco project.  I've kept the ATI folder on it since I got it, but it will be replaced by a Tapco T6.  I've modified and improved the folding joint but it isn't to my liking (too loose) - the holes/shaft aren't a tight enough fit. That ATI stock is also a long stock.  The Tapco stock also has an option to bolt on a left folder for the times I want to run with the folder - though I like a left folder a lot less than a right folder like the ATI.

The hand guard is one of the cheese graters for better ventilation and cooling.  I've often tactically shot 100-200 rounds in fairly rapid order, and the heat build up is pretty high.  I have Murray's optic mount on it with an Ultradot Pan AV red dot, zeroed at 50 yds for tactical.  The original iron sights are viewable below this optic.  The bayonet stays on for now until I can run some grouping tests with it folded and attached.  I may keep it if the grouping is better with it attached, and the zero doesn't change much.

Several trigger parts and springs have been changed out to Murray's parts, as is the firing pin.

The Norinco has all matching numbers, and cycles nicely (as does the Yugo).  I've put around 2000-2500 rounds through the Norinco since I got it with all the testing I've done in various configurations/modifications.

I will be making the drop free mag modification to the bolt soon.  And I'm mulling over the G5/1 SKS Mag Adapter to remove the duck bills.

It would be interesting to make a bullpup someday, if I find another decent Norinco base it on.  I kind of don't want to ruin Yugos :) even though there are fresh Yugos in cosmoline at a nearby shop for $379-$389 (in good to great shape).

You guys have the funniest gun laws down there :))
I actually like that plastic stock, and i hate plastic stocks usually.
Now be prepared to take photos of the inside of a screw thread or something odd so these guys can date it accurately for ya.  :)

Nah...   All we need is the serial number to do that.
