At the moment I have an sks on lay-a-way that I'm picking up tomorrow. The pawn shop owner thinks it's a yugo ;)
I'm paying $350 and it's in great condition with matching numbers and no triangle 26. 46282 is the number of the gun.
Is this an ok deal? I only gave $280 go my sks NR back in 2000 :)
Here are a few pics the shop sent me.

With the collectibity of SKS's continuing to rise, the average price for a stock military 26 rifle is just about what you are paying. It's not easy to find a functional SKS even for under $300 anymore. I'd say if it's a matching, or mostly matching rifle, you're paying a decent price.

Oh, and more pics when you get it  :)

Not a bad deal at all. Looks to be an early Chinese type 56. The IO import stamp makes me think that it's likely a 7 mil S/N gun, but it could be a 3 mil as well. Certainly not a ghost with that /26\ stamp.  Regardless, it looks like you got yourself a nice one.  thumb1

Sorry guys had a typo, there is no triangle 26 and 46282 is the number on the gun.

Does the stock number match?   Looks like a real nice ghost.   thumb1

Don't sweat $350 on that puppy....worth every bit these days. You aint gonna lose any money for sure. Congrats man, looks like a winner to me.  thumb1

I wanna see more pics for sure  thumb1 Looks almost like the stock might have got some sort of refinish or wood stain stateside  perhaps?

Picked it up today! All numbers match except for the receiver cover. I tried to remove the cross bolt but couldn't get it to come loose so I stopped on fear of messing the bolt up. I'm not sure about the stock being refinished. It's still peened and has cosmoline around the screws. Still have some cleaning to do but over all I'm very happy!

Nice rifle at a fair price. Prolly good shooter. PAX

Most certainly a ghost. A nice one at that, you did well!

Why are you trying to remove the crossbolt?  That's not typically a part I would suggest removing unless the fit is terrible. Remember, to remove the crossbolt, you do not put a flat screwdriver in the slot and start turning. The bolt is in a square hole in the stock and is not meant to turn. Loosen the nut with spanner wrench and then the crossbolt will slide right on out.

The dark valleys of the S/N stamping on the stock suggests a refinish to me. There may be cosmo in the nooks and crannies, but that only means that whoever had it before you didn't pay too much attention to detail in prepping and stripping it. No biggie though, the stock you have is the original stock and 50% of these IO Sino-Banians had replacement stocks. The mismatched cover is not terribly unusual with this batch either.

Nice score!  thumb1

Does the finish look spotty, like there are patches of shellac mixed with missing shellac? Looks that way to me in some of the pics but nothing beats having the rifle right in front of you.
