In order to use the actual Cyrillic letter, for example Д, rather than typing "a Cyrillic D", in your post or response, below I've described the two methods I use.

Use a word processing program to type a letter or word in Cyrillic, Greek, or any of the unique consonants or vowels of other languages.

Using Microsoft Word:

    Select the "Insert" menu
Choose the drop down menu under "Symbol"
Click on "More Symbols", then scroll down to find the letter of interest
Click on "Insert" and it will appear in your document
(As you use letters or symbols they will populate the recently used box as seen in the screen shot from my PC)
You can then simply use Ctrl+C to copy the word or symbol from your Word document
And use Ctrl+V to past them into the text field of your post

Example: Д

For whole words or letters, you can also use Google Translate:
https://translate.google.com/

Select the desired "input" and "translated" languages
    Type your word
Select the translated word with your mouse
    Use Ctrl+C to copy
Use Ctrl+V to paste into the typing field of your SKS Files post or response

For example: rifle -> винтовка

Alternatively, if you know the spelling of your word, or the marking seen on your rifle/pistol in Cyrillic, then select your input language of choice on the left, for example, Russian
Use the "select input tool", icon in the lower left of the typing field, to drop down a menu and bring up a virtual keyboard in Russian
Type your letter(s) or word(s) and copy/paste from the text field

By the way, this was only meant to be helpful, not a criticism of anyone. Many of us already use symbols, some don't because they'd rather not or cannot in their platform, and some don't because they don't know how.  It's only the last group that this was aimed at. Thanks.

1776 will commence again if you try to take our firearms... It doesn't matter how many Lenins you get out on the street begging for them to be taken.

Very good info!  thumb1

I go the lazy route myself. I use Roman letters for the easy ones (A B C E H K M O P T) and then find the harder Cyrillic ones by copy and pasting from a text file I have on my desktop. When I'm posting from my phone (like now), I copy and paste from the Russian S/N tracking thread http://sks-files.com/index.php?topic=780.0

Of course, using the Roman equivalents has its issues. Search engines recognize a K differently from a Cyrillic К so one might get a hit and another not so much.

Hmm, good point. Guess you have to search using the ASCII code  rofl
