2 weeks ago I picked up a Chinese Norinco SKS again. Hadn't had one in years and figured I had better find one.  I found one that appears to be Unissued and unfired. Still had light cosmoline on the internals. It is in like new condition. The blueing is incredible and stock only has 3 small handling dings, and the finish is super shinny. It has a short collar threaded barrel / Milled trigger group / one piece gas tube / Spike bayonet with screw / all matching numbers throughout / It is a factory /206\ ,Side mount rear swivel /came with cleaning kit in the stock and cleaning rod and a spring type sling.....  I have been reading everything I can find trying to figure out the Serial # and markings.  It reads as follows on left side of receiver.
/206\ ###    c    1413269    SKS  7.62x39   MADE IN CHINA BY NORINCO   CSI  ONT CA

I used # symbols to represent the 3 Chinese figures after the Triangle /206\.   From What I can find it appears to maybe be a 1969.  But  the clearly stamped letter C between the ### and the serial number baffles me.  It is kinda out there by itself.  And may be a little bit smaller that the serial # font.  I've looked at 100's of pictures of serial numbers and find none with this mark and find no one mentioning it either.   Just curious if anyone has seen one this way ?

I just found in another post on here from "Justin Hell' that he has a /206\ CSI with a similar c Prefix marking.  Well at least mines not unique.....  It's true meaning may never be known, and I guess it really doesn't matter in the end.   The rifle is in incredible Unfired condition and I'm glad to have found it. I'll try to get some pictures loaded up of it as soon as I figure out how on here.  I was so hesitant to remove the cosmoline from it last weekend , but I did it and it is over with. I was really torn, and kinda wanted to leave it on to preserve the "Un-Fired" evidence, but off it came anyway.  It's deep cleaned , and lubed up and ready to go..............uhhhggg........

Yup...  Sounds like a nice /206\.   We really dont know exactly what these random letters found on some guns are. Likely added by the exporter?... Maybe a particular branch of service?   Dunno....  There is a good thread on here somewhere about this...

I second that. C is for Cool...it has been written...

Mine came in an ATI folder that I broke a few years ago, and it has been changing furniture a lot ever since. Today, she got what I hope to be her final outfit, a Choate Dragonv stock...I still need to order the cheek rest.  Mine also came with a stock intended for a pinned barrel, and I have had a hell of a time finding a wood stock that fits. I think the short collar lugs actually have different stocks...it seems like those are less common vs. the threaded/pinned variety you commonly see offered...I don't think many people even know about long and short lugs.

So hang on to your stock!*

(*or sell it to me)

It will stay wrapped around this one; As - Is for sure.  Besides, I promised the old Gentleman that sold it too me , that I wouldn't butcher it up.  That's what AR's are for anyway.  Ha.

Right there with ya on cleaning out that cosmo, I always tell myself to leave it as is but...just love cleaning cosmo  rofl I've managed to leave a few but dang its hard.
Hippies are like stray cats...Feed 'em once and they never leave...then they stink up your couch.

Problem is...  Once you clean out all the cosmo, you can't go back and smell/lick.   cry1

Now i just gotta get the cosmoline smell out of the Turkey Fryer pot that I used to boil it off before the wife finds out..  Ooops !  Kinda forgot about Thanksgiving when I did this last weekend.

Justin Hell

Easy solution...and safer.

Keep the tainted cosmolicious turkey fryer for sniffing and licking...and future purchases.

Get the wife a new turkey fryer just because she is special. (Save the receipt, it is a sure thing for a Black Friday sale the day after)

Now that is THINKING right there..............  First time I tried it this way and will never do it any other way. So easy and effective. Oh, and cheap. (Except for the replacement pot)  And the Beer tastes WAY better while doing it this way without all the brake clean, ect. fumes ruining my brews.

Hot water is the only way to go for a decosmo job.  There's a photo floating around here of either the Chinese or NVA in Vietnam boiling up a batch of SKSs in a large kettle over a campfire to get them decosmo'd.  thumb1

Awesome pictures .    BTW;  I soiled my rifle today.    It shot GREAT .  :)   Put 100 rounds of Yugo through it and it did great. The 200 yard Steel didn't stand a chance.  Truth be told,  Just felt good to burn powder again .   Been stingy with the ammo for 8 years.   Buy - Yes. Shoot- NO.........Tomorrow will be cleaning day.......I've missed these days so bad.........

Boiling an as-issued, more-than-likely-new, Type 56 carbines like a stock pot chicken is not in my future.  :o  Gives me chills just seeing the pics!
