I just put my first sks on layaway Sunday. A pretty clean Yugoslavian M59/66A1.  Can not wait to get it home in a coupe weeks.  Just started browsing the boards. I am interested to know whatever I can about this piece.  Serial number starts with a Z 270***.  The stock has a few bumps and bruises so I will be refinishing it right away unless the gun has some history.  I'm guessing it's an '80's era gun.  Thanks for the add to this group.

Greetings from NM!

I certainly hope you enjoy it here at SKS-Files.

Your yugo is odd based on the info you provided.  Per Glen Burton's excellent research in the early to mid 2000's, Z block rifles were built in 1986, yet the S/N range should be 697k to 705k.  When you get it, post up some detailed photos and the knowledgable folk here will be able to tell you exactly what you got.  thumb1

Welcome aboard!

Welcome from the U.P. of Michigan.  I know you will love your new SKS just as you will this forum!  Make yourself at home!
When the Cambrian measures were forming, They promised perpetual peace.
They swore, if we gave them our weapons, that the wars of the tribes would cease.
But when we disarmed They sold us and delivered us bound to our foe,
And the Gods of the Copybook Headings said: "Stick to the Devil you know."

I knew this would be the place to get questions answered. I found the same thing with the serial number. I will have to verify the serial number next time I'm at the shop. It seems complete except for the bayonet and cleaning rod.  Also come with a Tapco 20 rnd mag.  I have a 45acp carbine and love it but not much good out past 50 yds.  Have a .223 bolt gun but too small a caliber to seriously hunt deer with. Hoping this will bridge the gap.  Plans are to add a Tapco stock as soon as possible. Alsway have loved the look of AK's and SKS.  Thanks for the help.

Welcome to the files....     Hey, maybe shoot it in its original configuration before modifications are made?   Maybe you will like it as-is.   :)

1776 will commence again if you try to take our firearms... It doesn't matter how many Lenins you get out on the street begging for them to be taken.

I plan to shoot it as is for a while. I like the stock configuration. I like to have something you don't see at the range everyday, and the SKS fills that easily. Will be looking for a bayonet ande cleaning rod for it as I go along. It is numbers matching.
