Will someone please splain to me the ever growing popularity and increasing sales prices of the commercial SKSs over the standard, run of the mill military types?

Is it the fact that many of them have been altered by the factory to accommodate removable mags? Is it because they have been chopped and have "cool" names like Paratrooper, Cowboy's Companion, Sharpshooter, and Sporter?  That some sport a hole in the stock that sounds like it came from an exotic destination out of a James Bond Movie?

What gives?????

1776 will commence again if you try to take our firearms... It doesn't matter how many Lenins you get out on the street begging for them to be taken.

What's worth more.... a 6 cylinder base model 68 mustang that they made 10 million of, or a 68 428 cobra jet mustang that they made 10 thousand of?

Whats worth more..  an original un-dickered with 67 Fastback Shelby, or one that had the doors removed and the roof chopped off to make it a parade float?

How is that example relative to the question?

CARBINE

I think because of the shorter barrels and higher mag capacity.
I don't believe there to be much accuracy difference but a shorter barrel is easier to handle in my opinion.
And they can be collectable.

Any sks can be collectable.  Some people like to tinker, some cannot do it themselves and have to buy a pre-tinkered rifle. Some people believe swapping magazines is mo-bedda. Some people are simply attracted to shiny objects with glitter.   think1

Commercial guns are not the most valuable fruit in the basket.... However, they are very collectable with dif flavers etc.

So, for a collector of commercials, it is primarily the fewer numbers produced that drives the premium pricing over the military SKS?  With the other semi evil attributes of the SKS, I cannot own those with ginormous banana clips, and equally large optics, so I have not really gotten into what makes them so desirable.  Sooo, I thought I'd ask those of you who dabble a bit on this side of the fence.

The notion that commercial guns are better then non commercial guns is ridiculous.  Many people would argue the opposite or the militaries using said rifles would have made said cosmetic alterations in the first place.  I have also seen just as many people having firing issues with either commercial or original.  (One is better then the other) is a  stupid argument.

I'm NO purist as you guys well now. After all, I make a living selling "mods" to the SKS. having said that, I DO HAVE unmolested Russians, Cherry's Yugo, and a few more, that I won't touch. BUT, I do have some heavily modified SKSs as well. All I can honestly offer, is, "it just depends on what you want". I really believe it's that simple.

And that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it.

Alright...  Back on track.  I put Jonny back in the box and made amends.

On topic...  I think its different strokes for different folks and when something is collectable, people will pay to fill holes etc.   thumb1

XXXSKS

I feel that 80 percent  of the SKS buying market are uneducated in the history of this fine carbine. Most all Commercial versions are rearsenaled or new production. Thusly they are in excellent condition. That 80 percent are only going to buy one rifle and are impressed with condition. A pretty (or excellent condition) rifle will have a better resale value in the future over the condition of say a Sino Banian. Only a die hard military collector can appreciate the condition of a Sino Banian.
