Acquired a 94 prefix SKS-M Friday evening. It is VA BCH import marked. It seems to be in excellent condition from what I can tell. Can't wait to get it to the range and see how she performs. If it's as reliable as my type 56, I'll be very happy.

I do have one "issue" though...hopefully someone on here can give me some insight. The Gas Piston Rod has tiny little ribs its entire length. Not the Piston head, but the long skinny rod. Is this common? It seems as though the ribs would wear away the metal in the small hole of the Gas tube. I'm considering removing them to make the rod smooth. But, since I don't know the purpose of them I thought I would ask here.

Congrats on the new acquisition!  May just be the result of a sloppy cleanup during machining. The final 3/4" at the tip of the gas piston is all you have to worry about as that is as far as the piston moves during operation and this area and the piston head are the only two that contact the rest of tge gun.  It wouldn't hurt if you used some emery cloth on the grooves up 3/4" at that tail end. Make sure you don't go hog wild and reduce the diameter of the end in any significant way.

Can you post a pic of the rod?
