Hello, and thank you for the ad.  I'm in Texas, and just recently got into the SKS thing.  My wife's side of the family are avid hunters, and I'm just playing catch up.  I'm an engineer, and so many of the technical aspects are what are interesting to me.  I have yet to purchase my first rifle.  I have bought weapons before, but only for my wife as she is the active shooter.  I would like to change this, and thus, I believe an SKS would be a great fit.

I'm currently looking for a '51 as a present for my father-in-law, so I may be asking for some opinions on listings on gunbroker.  I have seen running man's list, and I am working on getting better at deciphering/identifying (which I believe to be a never ending quest).  Looking forward to taking part in all the fun.

Welcome from another Texan!

Welp, you came to the right place. Other forums forbid posting live auctions but here at sksfiles we do not. In fact, we have a specific board section for them on the forum index page.  Post them there and ask away!

Welcome from WA!

I don't think you'll be disappointed if you get an SKS for yourself.  Of course, I may be biased  :))

Why a '51?  My mother-in-law (born in '51) passed right before I got married.  I think my father-in-law would see this as quite possibly the biggest gesture.  I know it would make the right kind of statement.  I've been married for 11 years now, but I'm really starting to get to know him better (and identify more).

Why an SKS?  Because I feel it is something that I identify with.  What a classic.  It would be something he isn't very familiar with, but that I would get to share with him (like he has shared with me).  In the long run, I would like to have a couple (so I could share with the rest of the family), but the requirements for those would be certainly more "loose".  Anyway, thank you again, my new friends.

Greetings from NM!  Glad to have you on the boards.  thumb1

It makes me happy to see that the GB listings are serving a purpose! clap1

'51 Tula's can be found in varying conditions, but they are plentiful and most certainly out there depending on what you're looking to spend.  An as issued '51 will run ~$600 these days where as a light furb can be had for $450 if you're in the right place at the right time.  The biggest difference (obviously besides the price) is that the as-issued example is going to have the correct '51 cartouche on the left side of the stock whereas a furb will likely have a replacement stock that may have the wrong date or no date at all.  Good luck in your search and please post away in the auctions section.  Many members here will gladly help you out if you don't feel comfortable pulling the trigger on a gun that tickles your fancy.
