Russian SKS - HELP!

Friend contacts me just now about a possible Russian SKS in a local pawn shop for $549. He's going to look at it again now. What do I need to know, tell him to look for, etc? Familiar with Norinco and have two, not Russian tho. HELP!

Basically, if it has all the original parts and hasn't been modified the price is not too far off tell the pawn shop $500 cash and take her home....you can't go wrong. But you must post pics here when you get it!!!

Pretty much what Carbine says...  look for black painted bolt carrier, grey colored rear sight leaf, and XXXXX old numbers on the stock for a sure identification of a rework.
