2nd year production 1957....  And a very nice one to boot.   thumb1

I.O. import on the right side of barrel, or Century?

1776 will commence again if you try to take our firearms... It doesn't matter how many Lenins you get out on the street begging for them to be taken.

Question
Would I hurt the value of this rifle by putting it into this real nice Jungle stock ?  comando1

What is the value in todays market ?

I don't want to hurt the value of this rifle, I'll leave it all original.

Thanks,
Alfred

Phosphorus32

Nicest looking 2M I've seen  thumb1 I love that old sling.

Just keep that original stock and handguard safe and together. Definitely more valuable to a collector with the original matching stock.

I'll change it back for sure, if I hurt the value.  stop1

I'm not sure if you hurt the "Value" but you changed a very early all matching chinese into a run of the mill non-matching sks, that on an auction I would just skim past and not give it another glance. Just a personal preference I guess, like P32 said that is one of the nicer originals I've seen! I would at least keep the parts so you could change it back if you change your mind.

Thats a nice Rifle. That sling looks cool too ! Your not going to hurt the value by just placing it in the jungle stock for awhile. Of course you will keep the matching stock that goes with the gun. I have a jungle stock also but when I put it on a chi-com one time the gun seemed to heavy to me.. Just my opinion, But like yours it looks cool  :)

Ok it's back to the way I received it a couple years ago, back in the safe it go's with it's other two friends !

It's the one in the middle.

Here is the write up on the one on the far left, it's a Sino/Banian mut :

I'm fishing for a fair price on these so I'm asking for a fair market value ?
I don't want to loose money on these ?
I have SKS's & AK's  over the top, my safe is getting clogged up !
I may be selling these three in the next couple of mouths or I will haft to buy a larger safe ?

I got one of fiberglass things...somewhere, maybe under the bed, throwed in a box, heck I don't remember chuckles1

and yup...what they all said, with a side note, when they say keep the original wood, keep the wood original as well. Don't go sanding and refinishing, it ain't a chair or a table, refinishing it can have the about the same effect as putting the fiberglass stock on. I say this simply because, the market at times is largely refinished, adding another it becomes just another ho-hum refinished rifle in a vast sea of refinished rifles, an original, that stands out. If'en you want a real purdy rifle Weatherby, Remington, Winchester and so on make'em new and purdy everyday.

Yeah.. I openly admit, I'm biased to the purist side rofl
I'm going to make him an offer he can't refuse......

Sell guns to make room in a gun safe. nea1 nea1  Thats not thinking with your dipstick, Alfred. :) Buy another, larger safe, that gives you more room, or added justification, excuse, what ever one wants to call it to buy more toys  thumb1   Don't shrink the collection to fit said safe area, just to turn around and fill it up again, increase said safe area to fit the growing collection, and keep it all. There is no law that says you cant have safes, as in more than one safe thumb1

Just a hoarder and an "Enablers" .00002 worth  rofl

31 as-issued /26\s have sold since January on Gunbroker with an avg. price of $394.79.  That's a pretty nice one. It should be on the high side of the average in my opinion, though many will see the condition and assume it's the same as the $329 fair to avg (non-matching) or $399 ("all-matching") Type 56s currently for sale at J&G.  There's a glut of them out there right now.  Wait for the retailers to finally sell out and that rifle will appreciate quite a bit I bet.

Good advise running-man maybe I'll keep them another couple of years ?  think1

Try to understand where I'm coming from, I have been colleting guns for some 30+ years next year I'll be 60 ! geezer1

Looking in the mirror this morning I realized one day I'm gonna leave this place when the Lord calls. declare1

I don't want to leave my wife with a small fortune worth of guns only to be raped financially buy the gun community paying her penny's on the dollar knowing she doesn't know much about guns, that's how it works here around my neck of the woods.
In my life I have seen a gun store dealer pay a widow $200 for a 10,000 Civil War gun and  laugh at her behind her back and feel no shame whatsoever, his sick slick justification is "she should of done her homework".  :o

Am I gonna stop enjoying collecting and shooting at the range on Saturdays ?  stop1
Heck no, it's to much fun, I'm getting ready to have a 1965 Romanian AK built soon. stickup1

Am I gonna get rid of all my SKS rifles ?  cry2
Heck no, I like the SKS platform too much !  clap1

I'm just talking about thinning out the heard so when I do go my hording won't be a bourdon on my wife, and I will remain with a nice modest collection designated to let family members I love most inherit like I did when my father passed.

I hear where you're coming from Alfred. I've got 4 Sino-Banians in my collection right now, and the one you have shown in this thread is far nicer than all of them.

Maybe I should send you some $$ for this one and then unload 2 or 3 of the ones I've got?  Of course, that will get me in some bigtime trouble with the Mrs. as I promised her no new firearms purchases until we get her clawfoot tub (and the rest of the house for that matter) all done.  Maybe around Christmas time (when a long nondescript box doesn't arouse so much suspicion at theRM household), I'll shoot you an email out of the blue and see if you still have her and if you're still interested in unloading the excess...  :))

Wow, we have it (SKS-itis) bad don't we?! chuckles1

The last thing I want is to cause problems with your or anyone elses MRS.   thumb1
I'll put all three away for a later day ?

I would rather sell them to people that appreciate them than to let them go on the GunBroker to a bubba that might destroy the collectability by doing the Bubba on them.

So yah I'll just put them away for a later day.

I paid top dollar for the niceness of them, over what the last 31 that sold  on GunBroker, I even paid $30.00 a piece for the slings from AKBLUE all the rifles have 7.62x39 cleaning kits in the buttstocks too.

I didn't gamble with Classic Arms, lots of folks got good ones true, but lots got mixed matched rifles too.

If anyone has an interest the other two, feel free to let me know by PM ?  OK1

That's a nice Type 56, Alfred! I never got into the Sino-Banians because of the gamble of the lottery played when ordering. (as you were talking about with Classic Arms.) Many people, like yourself, did end up with nice rifles. But many ended up with quite a mess too.

But your rifle? Yeah, I would have been happy to get that in the UPS shipment! I hope that I see it when you do put it up for sale. I guess the Gas Tube and Gas Rod were matching, as well?

I'm also in the Purist camp. I vote to keep it just like it came. You can always find a non-matching SKS to use that jungle stock with.
Thanks for sharing the pics Alfred!

I too wonder how I will leave the wife with my collection.  The best thing to do is keep them engaged in your collection if it is at all possible. Explain why each one is important in it's own way and point differences out. If you are lucky you can get a bit of interest out of her.  I got lucky...mine is pretty decent about it considering she is a vegetarian. (The only other one I know into SKSs is a little windbag of a blue shark)

Another thing to do might be to make a small log book, detailing each gun...including a date and an estimated value at the time you write it....perhaps include the purchase price too. These lil buggers have been steadily increasing in value and show no signs of losing it.  You might consider paying attention to the monthly sales reports and updating the log book occasionally to indicate the current market prices.  You could also give her the info on how to contact the community here both for current values and to ensure she doesn't get ripped off by an unscrupulous dealer....possibly finding good homes for them to folk here who wouldn't butcher them.

RM:  There is an old trick to pull the wool over the old lady's eyes...when explaining those long boxes that keep arriving...just say they are curtain rods. It worked for Lee Harvey Oswald.  chuckles1

Alfred that is an absolutely beautiful specimen, I'm impressed with the S/N'd wood too!

Just a guess on that  rofl
