Just droppin in to say hello. Long time enthusiast and mil-surp acquirer. Not really a collector as I have no shame, and like to tinker. Started down the SKS rabbit hole over a decade ago, and was amazed at their ability to self-replicate. Now I've got a small pile of Russian, Romy, Alby, and of course Chinese rifles. Been snapping up spares as I run across them, but the supply is drying up here in Kali. PAX

I checked out your thread but couldn't give any constructive help. I don't know munch anything about commercial NORINCO rifles, or that B West had ever moved. Although I thought your bayo was upside down. Are you selling it? I need a NORINCO to butcher.

You know that several well informed guys, such "beachbumwithagun" amongst others, were essentially run off, a couple years ago, by Mr. Corning and that gang of decenters, through constant bickering and questioning of some of "their expertise". So much so, that they were 86ed here, and started their own gig that's supposedly the be all of Chinese SKS production. They surface on Gunboards to "set folks straight" with their self professed opinion of facts, and to promote their site. Maybe they or Yooper have your answer. PAX

I'm not aware of any falling out between Coinring & BBWAG.  If you know additional details about this story, I'd be very happy to listen to them.  There are a good many reasons for leaving any particular forum that run the gambit from people passing away, to getting banned, to growing older and losing interest.  Lots of great people with a wealth of information have come and gone from sksboards; guys like 1952Sniper, spinch, lollygagger, galahad, archivist dick, etc, it's the nature of the beast when you deal with online communities dedicated to a particular subject.   

As for our "expertise" here, feel free to look around the site and let me know what you think. I know that it's not perfect and that we're not always right, but we try to learn from our mistakes and keep the "self professed opinion of facts" down to a minimum.  If there is something stated in an FAQ or sticky thread on this site that you disagree with, by all means point it out and explain why it's wrong.  No need to feel like you're walking on eggshells; stay within the rules and be civil by all means, but an argument is never going to be the end of the world around here.  There will never be a ban week and everybody except for a select group of sksboards admin and holier-than-thou übercollectors who have consistently and repeatedly shown an inability to pull their heads out of their rears will be listened to here.

I happened to ask Ranger in a pm a few moths ago, if BBWAG was OK, as I hadn't seen ANY input from him in a few years(?), and I was concerned if I'd missed his passing or what ever. Ranger said he just quit posting, in retrospect, I hadn't seen some of the others that got banned either. I hadn't any idea that there had been any "infighting" as it were, it's the weeb and all that. I take it all with a grain of salt. As long as cheap SKS are available, that's all I really care about, but the supply in certainly shrinking, but not the cost. Five years ago I got 2 Romys for $565, two years ago, the average price for an SKS in Kali was $300, last week it was $400, so I've been scarfing them up out of state when the price is right. Physical possession is more important to me than "It's a T56, no it's a NORINCO", or "Arab contract vs Egyptian Contract" bs (which I have one of). Until China frees up production data (never), it's all gross speculation by inference on Chinese dating's outside of /26\, such as date stamped T53s have such and such characteristics as do arsenal /666\, there fore those similarities mean that SKS was made at the same time. This site lays claim to be "THE DEFINATIVE CHINESE SKS SOURCE", so how could I not hook up.  SMASHING THROUGH THE LIES is pretty bold stuff, and somewhat inflammatory. I don't care who says what, except Harris at the Kali DOJ. I'm no expert, but I luvs me some SKSs. Their simplicity is akin to air cooled VWs, which I'm a long time junkie for too. Anybody got stuff for sale? PAX

Site owner RM asked you a direct question regarding your bashing of myself and 'that gang of decenters".   And you can/should understand why we would be curious as to why you joined here if thats how you feel about us (which is way off base btw).

Yes it's been repeated so many times over the years people just accept it but where did it start? why is it the be-all end-all? How could a say...23 mill /26\ be dated and have certain features but a 23 mill /636\ with same said features not be dated?

PAX, What we have here is a safe place to ask questions and ponder what has been accepted as fact. We wanna compile has much concrete data and pics as we can and go from there. Noobs and old timers alike can question without fear of ridicule and in the process we might find some things out that say might have been dismissed in years past.

Good enough PAX, good enough.  Ranger has his version of how things went down and those who migrated here have their version.  I've heard people insinuating that BBWAG left because of Coinring but I guess I would ask the question: If "Ranger said he just quit posting" how does he know that Coinring is the reason for him leaving?  That's a pretty big stretch there, the events were separated by a couple of months if I remember correctly.  Besides a few guys that post with regularity here and not there, I know of nobody else that totally left because of the kerfuffle; most were shown the door during 'ban week', they stopped putting a "THIS USER IS BANNED" under all the names after a while.

As for this site being "THE DEFINATIVE CHINESE SKS SOURCE", that's the first I've ever heard of that.  My offer to point out where something is way off base in a sticky or FAQ still stands.  People here will listen to any argument that's made if there's something more than "because I said so" to back it up.  I think we try to show where evidence is thin and where there are four or five corroborating pieces. 

The traditional model of /26\ only dating really has zero corroborating evidence anywhere (and believe me I've looked).  Our model of universal dating has a fair bit of evidence with some of the odder prefix conclusions based on thin evidence I will be the first to admit, but other conclusions that have 4 or 5 pieces of evidence all pointing to the same year being pretty hard to argue with.  I don't know what more can be done other than present that data and let people decide for themselves.

There's always useful info to be had, and quite frankly, we've got bigger fish to fry in the 2A community, than if someone gets their panty hose in a bunch over keyboard strokes. It doesn't matter if it's a '65 T56 or an '93 NORINCO if they come for it, make it illegal, or make the ammo hard to acquire. The original Kali AW ban was pushed after .... (I won't say his name) went crazy with a T56 in a Stockton school. This latest insanity. The last batch of nut jobs all legally purchased deadly black guns of mass destruction. Darker days lie ahead in our fine country, and it doesn't hurt to make new friends, or see how old ones are doing. PAX

I will agree on the 2nd Amendment stuff, yes, turbulent times are ahead for all of us in some way, shape or form, but lets cut the frumpy BS:
First and foremost, I am one of the "dissenters" that has been mentioned above.

Second, as you state, "you just passed on what someone else responded to your inquiries", so you assumed without bothering to get both sides of the story, you passed judgement well before you knew facts to both sides of the story, there is no excuse in my book for that, or even worse flapping your jaws when we can't defend our side of the story.

Being judged/criticized by someone who is/was clueless all the while being fed and believing info from "one" side, oh yeah, my panties are in a wad over said key strokes.

Put yourself in our place, the as we were referred to "dissenters" shoes and read the stuff you/others post. How about we judge you... well to that end, I have no more right to judge you, than you me, or any other member here. You/we will be all judged soon enough by someone vastly more important.

Anyway, that's out of the way now, I'm sure "we" are all mature enough to turn the other cheek, and put the past behind us.

I'm here aren't I. I'm not passing judgment on anyone. Like I said, I had just noticed that I hadn't seen any posts by some folks and asked. So what was the rift all about? I must have been living life when all the point-counter-point was going on.

During that time frame in the real world, my son Derek was beaten severely on his 30th birthday, and left comatose for months, before I had to pull the plug on him. Talk about putting the past behind you, try giving that a shot. After an event like that, cases out the back door, internet blather, petty idiosyncrasies, really don't mean chit to me. I take it day by day.

I think the last time we chatted, Gm and I, you gave your opinion on S10s that I'd asked about. This last December I picked up 2 for dirt,  a '97 ext cab w/shell, V6 auto posi, 104K miles & a 2000 ZR2 w/shell & 97K miles. This last rig, the ZR2 really is special to me. It had belonged to my afore mentioned son's best friend, Bobby. Labor day Friday, '05 he was at work on his first break. He and the other fab guys, were screwing around on another mechanics unfinished VW trike, when the throttle got stuck wide open, and drove him through the side of a metal building, severing his jugular. He bled out in the arms of one of the dads, who'd always helped kids get a start in the work force. I have my boys '71 VW and his ZR2, I'll never get rid of either. I'm first in line for Bobby's SKS too. PAX

I'm very sorry to hear about your son. No parent should have to lose a child, and to lose one to violent circumstances makes it even more saddening.  I'm a parent of 2 of my own and 4 bonus kids so believe me when I offer my sincere condolences and empathy. It certainly does put things in perspective and fighting between or within internet forums is way down the list when you consider it in the light of such painful life events. 

Nevertheless, I hope you can understand that your words in the post on the SKS Boards (perhaps you've reread them, I certainly won't bother to re-post them) were disrespectful to founders of the SKS Files and disparaged their work in analyzing data acquired through studying the actual SKS rifles in question.  Then you come over here are granted access by those you have recently put down (fairly magnanimous of the founders, I would opine) and misrepresent the dating scheme, how it was developed and the evidence it rests upon.  Perhaps that was just because you hadn't read it thoroughly and considered the evidence for yourself. Perhaps that's only because who made the Chinese SKSs and when, aren't important to you, which is fine. I don't know your motivations and don't want to assume, I'm just trying to figure out your choice of words.

Anyhow, the various statements you've made here and elsewhere beg the question of whether or not you are here just to "poke the bear", so to speak    Based on your statements about bigger issues, loss of loved ones, 2A/RKBA, personally I would be willing to give you the benefit of the doubt and assume that you really aren't trying to be contentious and perhaps you simply don't always use a filter when typing at the keyboard. Stress, grief, the daily grind can do that to anyone. But if that's the case, just remember that turnabout is fair play, so don't expect others to filter their comments, or pull punches   I hope we can get past this bumpy start, and just enjoy each others' company.

The definition of Mercy is : not getting what one deserves. 
The definition of Grace is : Getting what one doesn't deserve.   

I believe you received both Mercy & Grace from this Forum !
