Romanian Stock

Just wanted some opinions from the field on the condition of this Romanian stock. Does it look like it's been refinished or otherwise altered? It's the only part that does not match the remainder of the SKS. The rest of the SKS is really nice. Finish and bore are superb, almost looks unfired. I can get it for $482.50 out the door. Won't go any lower than that. I don't have my heart set on it, looking for a shooter, but want to be able to sell down the road if necessary. Thanks!

Do you think the price is too high for a mismatched SKS? Stock being the only mismatch.

If I'm reading the GB matrix correctly, 2 averaged $443 and 4 averaged $516.50. I would rate this SKS at Very Good but with mismatched stock. The asking price is $482.50 out the door.

Is it safe to assume that you can add shipping and FFL fees to the prices that are listed on the GB matrix? Of course, some will have FFLs and avoid the fees.

And, this doesn't mean that the prices paid were correct, some over some under. Thoughts?

Definitely check the running GB charts for the whole year: GB listings - 2016 - Romanian (AKA What's my M56 worth?)

The one you speak about is going to be comparable to the 6 refurbished guns in the upper portion of the chart that avg $492.17.  Breaking it down by condition in the refurbished category of the lower portion of the chart, I see there are 4 good refurbished guns running an avg. of $516.50.  The fair ones run much cheaper at an avg. of $443.50.

You'll have to determine the true condition of the gun as well as whether it's been bubba'd at all (drilled and tapped, aftermarket parts instead of original, etc.).  Bubba kills value, there's no way around it.  You're not terribly far off in price either way though.  If you really like it, get it.

No, the GB listings are just guides as to what things sold for.  No guarantee that all 6 guns weren't overpriced for what they were.  Also, shipping and FFL fees are not taken into account there so a FTF or local gunstore/gunshow transaction is often cheaper by $20 to $60.

All makes sense. I'll take a look at the past year stuff as well. At the end of the day, a person just has to decide if it meets their expectations and live with their decision. Get what you think you want and buy once, cry once as someone's grandpa used to say.

The matrix is great! Gives a person a good look at what things are selling for nationally. You can write blue books all day long, but this is reality. GB is probably the best we have. A collector has much more insight, but this works for laymen like me. I appreciate all the hard work and effort put into this. Wish other sites used this for other weapons.
