I have a data point for you:

http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=553811579

It's clear the seller didn't know exactly what he had until the auction was already ongoing.  Whoever landed this one I think got an absolute steal @ $905.00.  These are in the same 'rarity' class as the NVA/NK/EG guns, yet they sell for $2 to $3k less?  Maybe people just missed the auction (I know I did, there were only 7 bidders and the start was only $399.87).  If it is indeed an accurate representation of the market, I guess I just don't understand the large descrepancy.

Here is a copy of the listing for posterity's sake for when the GB listing goes bye-bye:
QuoteSKS Model 59 Yugo S/N 048 7.62x39 Rifle RI-SKS-048

Yugo M59 SKS rifle with blade bayonet, 048. That is not a mistake, this is serial number 048. That would make this one of the first rifles to leave the Yugo arsenal in 1959. What a collectors piece this is. This particular rifle shows lots of use but overall is in good used condition. Rifle has matching bolt, bolt carrier, stock, receiver and trigger assembly. Barrel bore is very bright with very good rifling. There are a few scratches on one side of the barrel ( shown in the pictures), the handguard wood is cracked and the handguard does not fit very tight. Wood stock has more than the expected scuffs, nicks and scratches from use, but overall is in fair condition with no cracks in the main wood stock, just the handguard wood as noted above. Since this is number 49 we are reluctant to change the stock as the serial number is stamped in the wood. If it were not for this, this would be a great candidate for a restock as the metal parts are nice on this SKS. Barrel is screw in milled type. Rifle has ten round fixed box magazine. Your chance to get a post war collectible Yugo SKS rifle for that collection.

Note that this is one of the rarest of rare SKS rifles known as the Long Barrel M59, these were prototypes and there is thought to be 22 currently in existence. The low serial number, the adjustable front sight and the longer that standard length barrel all add up to a very collectible rifle.

And the photos as well:

Likely the roughest one I've seen.   Is this one already on our list?

1776 will commence again if you try to take our firearms... It doesn't matter how many Lenins you get out on the street begging for them to be taken.

Handguard certainly doesn't match the stock.  It is a 1.TRZ though...

Rough or not, I still think the seller screwed up by not having a high limit and not advertising it as a LB Yugo.  I bet he could have gotten another $500 to $1k out of the auction if there were more eyeballs on it.

I watched that one and I agree that it's the roughest LB I've ever seen and that it still would've fetched at least $500 more if it was advertised with a proper title.

Loose}{Cannon

Yup... It seems the seller only knew it was a low serial, nothing more.
