Ok, here's one I found that has some kind of issue.  Tell me what the main issue is and win bragging rights.  thumb1

Scrubbed and reserialized... Wrong font, no postfix, likely now living on a tula.

1776 will commence again if you try to take our firearms... It doesn't matter how many Lenins you get out on the street begging for them to be taken.

Geez LC,either he's torchering you or that aint the answer hes looking for  :) Thats cold blooded if you ask me   chuckles1

I havent the faintest idea what could be wrong other then the letters on the back of the cover look engraved kinda

Phosphorus32

Isn't that one of those unusual Chinese double letter gun early trials SKS covers. They got the N backwards and I don't recognize the triangle arsenal  ???  rofl

Loose}{Cannon

I know what this is....   One of them thar 'Russian Gary' guns.

Nobody yet :). You're the closest but how can you tell it's been scrubbed and restamped.  :P

Because an Izzy prefix and serial should both be on the same line!!!

piss, I was just about to say that.

Oooh, fun. I second LC's observations.

Adding only that the Cyrillics look like they have shadows of the previous serial / possible indication of overstrikes. And the left and right side of the cover corners are not symetrical: the right side arc tapers inward where it rests on the receiver whereas the left side is vertical.

The two line vs single line stamping is the only objective hard evidence on this cover. Everything else is a subjective observation subject to interpretation (good observations and all likely true, but still subject to opinion).  If there was a readable digit from the former scrubbed S/N still present, that would be a good objective data point as well.  thumb1

Loose}{Cannon

In that format... Its a tula serial = scrubbed

Right.  thumb1  But now look at this one, S/N PB83:

The receiver of this gun shows it's clearly an Izhevsk (though not necessarily a '53).  The gun is a black BBQ refurb.  The receiver cover is a '53 Izhevsk, with a two line stamping and in addition to this the font on the B, the 8, and the 3 are all noticeably different.

So there you go, an actual Izhevsk with a Tula style S/N on the cover.  I suspect all the refurb S/N re-stampings were two line in the Tula style though.  thumb1

Loose}{Cannon

I would call that a scrubbed cover also simply because of that two line style.

If i understand correctly;
to remove the old number you grind it down and remove the depth of the stamping.

Has anyone put calipers on the end of the receiver cover to get a thickness measurement on original and scrubbed to see if there's a noticeable difference?

Loose}{Cannon

The old numbers/letters would likely be filled first.
