Has anyone ever heard of these was reading another forum and ran across this topic, said it was a prototype that came out right before the import ban.

I have...

From what I understand, there has been claims that a few did make it to the US.  I have seen one or two in 223 but iirc, they were done by individuals at later date here in the US.

Would be very interested in adding it to the guide if one is ever found in the US.

1776 will commence again if you try to take our firearms... It doesn't matter how many Lenins you get out on the street begging for them to be taken.

I had seen pics and elusive references to the .223 SKS, but never saw one in person. This pic is definitely interesting.

I wish one of the pics would have shown the importer.

Are you saying they were imported, or modified here by a company?   Where's the add?  bat1

This is the ad from Shotgun News that started the rumor of a .223 SKS. It was in the July 10 1987 issue a full 6 months before the first detachable mag SKS rifles entered the USA. This is a teaser ad or a look what's coming ad (place your order now). These were used a lot in Shotgun News. What this ad does not tell us is how many IF ANY made it here.

Personally I don't think any made it here. There would be somebody somewhere standing on a soap box shouting look what I got.

Hmm...  "Manufactured By Norinco Of China".    rofl

I think your right Joe... We would have seen a US owner showing one off by now.

Very nice Joe! This is also the last nail in the coffin for that "DIG = Dominion Import Group" theory that is so prevalent about the web.  As much as it pains me to say so, GM was right from the very start!! :o :P  chuckles1

Yes Greasemonkey was right.  :o

During 1988 DIG was the biggest advertiser of the Detachable 20" SKS (more ads to follow soon). This ad was the first and last mention of a .223 SKS.

Delta Investment Group.... can you D.I.G. it  rofl2 rofl2

So the ad pretty much pre-dates all removable mag models, with the exception of the Type 84, interesting.

And they didn't modify existing rifles, they were new built.
